Same with my ARE Z Series on my new 3rd Gen. I don't think it's a huge deal either but I'm not too happy about it.

I talked to my topper dealer and he said you can't expect them to keep the tailgate up and it is totally normal. I have owned several trucks with toppers in the past, and not a single tailgate could be opened with the topper closed... He also dismissed my concerns when I noticed water had leaked into the bed after a minor rainstorm. For over $2000 on a topper designed specifically for my truck I would expect it to be watertight, and at least attempt to keep the tailgate from opening with the topper closed and locked.

Wow.. I would not be ok with that. Waiting on my Leer XR and expecting a tighter fit. After paying so much, I'd talk with the dealer.

I'm super happy with my Leer 100xr! Good fit, good seal, looks great and keeps the tailgate from opening when closed.

    Yes. This is the Rebel
I was initially surprised too, by the over-lip around the perimeter. I prefer it now. I wouldn't want the roof of my house to NOT have an eve.
And (I think I'll put some pics in here, check back later ) inside the rear door, you will see the depth of the sill. I think it's excellent.
Oh sure, there's going to be pros and cons with every manufacturer. But honestly, I'm 100% with this Snugtop Rebel.
BTW, my only gripe was how 'tight ' .... the decal was up under the bottom edge of the shell. So I bought decals I preferred and replaced the originals.
I've read some with a rear door which does not reach low enough to inhibit opening of the tailgate? THAT, is one thing I would not find acceptable.

IMG_20160312_081824133.jpg I had to put some weatherstripping on the lip because it was scratching the tailgate when shutting. (Snugtop Rebel)

Had to do the same thing with the Innovation canopy on my 02.

I have Jason topper and I am not excited about the front of topper and how it meets up with the front of the bed. I loose 2" of interior space, which makes a big difference when sleeping in it. Is this typical of all manufacturers?

Can you post some better pictures of the side windows in operation? And the exact wording of the side window option you ordered? That is exactly what I want. Best looking topper imo by far...

My ARE is leaking at the front corners, anybody else have this issue? It looks like the front bed rail channel thingamajigger is the problem. Need a fix.

Yep that's the spot, they used some kind of standard truck cap filler. I think the tube of Silicone would be better too. Thanks for the pics

These are the sliding windoor option. Upper half slides halfway open
Super happy with seal and function!

I apparently have a hard time telling from pictures, but is this a shortbed? I'm looking to see if either ARE or LEER offer the vented windoor for the DCSB
