Hey party people. I'm going on a mountain biking spree starting this Friday (3/18) through Grand Junction, Moab, and Sedona. Not sure how many of you guys have experience in those areas or would want to join, but there is an open invite. Otherwise I'm looking for some ideas on trails to ride and places to camp.

As far as Grand Junction goes I was planning on hitting North Fruita desert (18s road or whatever) and Lunch Loops. Moab I'll probably go to Kane creek/Cliffhanger, maybe slick rock. Haven't really spent much time in Sedona, so any info would be great, especially cool places to camp.

    Thanks!

I ride 18 rd a lot. My favorite run is joes ridge into mojo. Also go check out the loops in Loma, don't know what kind of riding you like the but the loops like Mary's loop are not bad. My wife can ride that one, but there are some killer views while riding on a more slick Rock type terrain. We ride that one together then she rides back to the truck and I'll ride more fun and meet her. May want to google more fun before you partake it's a fun one.

If you're going to have a chase vehicle the white rim trail in Moab kicks ass. We did it over 4 days.

@Zac of all trades This. There's enough in that area to spend an entire vacation and running the gamut from gravel road to bring a change of underwear. My favorite part of the state. As for doing something in April, I'd be surprised if anything was completely (or even partially) open that early especially anything with an elevation greater than treeline. That's not to say there isn't other stuff to do that might be (or is) open and lower, but if you want the 'I may only do this once' place, Silverton/Telluride/Ouray is the place to go imho.

That map represents the snowpack for respective river basins. It's not literally the snowpack for the geographic area it is covering.

Unfortunately I'll be riding solo so no chase truck or shuttle driver. Moore fun looks like a lot of fun. Do you park in the kokopelli parking lot?

    Thanks for the info.

Well...you know...this little thing called Easter Jeep Safari. So your plan to miss the weekend crowds is more like 10,000+ people all week

It starts this Saturday through the 27th. I'll be there Tuesday for the whole week.

    Dang......thats a bummer......

I drive through Moab on my way to AZ regardless, so I'll see how the crowds are when I get there. I'm hoping if its anything like Rock Therapy, everyone will be in their cars, so the mtb trails won't be too bad. I guess we'll see. I won't be too upset if I have to skip it.....

It would be fun for you to ride the slick Rock trail on Hells Revenge. You'd have plenty of people to watch.

Not much dispersed camping around Sedona, be very careful where you pitch camp. Drive schnebly hill road between 17 and 89A and up towards the top there should be a campsite or two that looks out over Sedona, amazing views.

There is free and pay camping at 18 rd. That area can occupy you for many days. Lunch loops are fun, but I would recommend kokopelli over them. There is some sweet free camping on the Colorado Utah border near the Colorado too. I would put up some pics but I am on my phone.

Yeah there are several parking lots In that area. We normally park in the first one so my wife can ride a dirt road down to the vehicle after her ride. She will then drive to the end of more fun and wait. But it's still not a bad ride on the road back up to the parking lot. Take a spare tube and some tools if you're goin to ride more fun after other trails. I don't think I've ridden it without someone needing some sort of trail repair. But that's normally due to us racing each other. Either way be prepared for it.

White rim is out with no chase vehicle, if you ever get the time, it's a fun one with a group over a few days.

I was always curious about the performance gain that you get from a LT kit

Darn, I would think that area would have a lot of camping. I'll pay for a camp site as long as I'm not surrounded by rv and 5th wheels. Do they even have paid primitive camp grounds like around Moab?

My buddy works for Trek and he was/is out there this week for a big bike festival or something, so I'm hoping the crows will be gone by the time I get out there.

I know the area you're talking about. Been there, camped on a cliff over the river, it was awesome.

Sounds good. I usually ride with the expectation of something going wrong. I'll make sure the first aid kit is stocked as well....
