1999 4Runner sweetness

    I helped a good friend recover and change the tire on his 1999 4Runner. He was 220,000 miles on it and its still running strong.

    I was amazed to see zero frame rust on it. I know the 2000-2004 tacomas had a problem.

    I wonder what gives? His 4Runner has spend its entire life in salty as balls Ohio.

    I think that the letter I received from Toyota regarding my crushed '97 indicated that 4runners are not affected by the rust issue as their frames were made in Japan. Tacoma frames were produced in the USA by a subcontractor who muffed up the job a little bit. -Matt

    Id have your buddy replace the ball joints, I had 225K on my 99 4Runner and the lower ball joint went out, while I was driving, NOT good.
