Camping and Backpacking GEAR thread

Yup it was. I called every day all of feb and just barely got through last week. The last couple of years was easier for me this year was very hard. luckily they gave me the dates cause theyre booked solid until end of Nov. Think they let me have it since I was going solo.

 

You could park a quad in there LOL

Pretty cool for truck camping though. I'd rock that thing, but I wouldn't want to carry the weight and bulk.

 

Yup. Looks like a great tent for truck camping.

 

I use a Black Diamond Chaos harness. Super comfy compared to any other harness I've tried.

 

I would highly recommend checking out Enlightened Equipment.

Think I got like a dollar lol. I don't buy much from rei these days though. And what I do buy is sales or outlet so doesn't qualify. Recently though I've been finding g stuff for healer elsewhere. Just got a market minimalist jacket in the color I wanted for 70 bucks cheaper than rei.

But I do love their return policy on stuff even though I've only ever returned one thing. But it's awesome knowing its there

 

REI changed their liberal return policy a few years ago now. People were taking back worn out gear. Have not checked what my dividend is yet. I've been switching over to ultralight gear for backpacking trips, but still use most of my older stuff for car camping now. I've been buying gear from Enlightened Equipment, Western Mountaineering and ZPacks for cuben fiber packs and shelters and using alcohol stoves for long backpacking trips on my vacation. Hope to get another dog within a year, so will have to go back up in weight a tad. I've been without a buddy for 12 years or more, mostly due to my present work situation, soon to be retired.

I carry a short rope on most of my longer backpacks here, a 30m ski mountaineering rope is handy for helping people along exposed ridges and downclombing some of the 14ers. Don't carry much pro except for certain routes, but then I carry I light rack and a superlight ski mountaineering harness.

+1 on the Sawyer Mini filter with gravity bag mentioned earlier, my go-to system for most backpacking

 

I got my REI dividend notice for way more than I thought it was going to be ($217). I forgot I bought everyone on my Christmas list REI gear. Haxe to go shopping!

Oh yea! my cousin works there, so its hard not to shop there.

I really like my Revelation 40 by them. 13.4 oz and super comfy/versatile.

 

The harness I was looking at earlier on was the Petzl Corax.
I need to check the rei out in St .Louis and see if they have harnesses I can put on.

 

This is a super popular harness. My climbing partner has it and I see a lot of others in it. I have a Mammut Ophir slide 4 which is similar.

I only got into climbing in the last 3 months and I'm already hooked

 

I got into it about 6 months ago. It's great and the community is cool. I joined The Arizona Mountaineering Club and been loving all forms of climbing.

 

I need to get back into climbing. Membership for the gyms have just gotten too expensive now.
