Some of us have the Cobra 75 WX ST:

    http://www.amazon.com/Cobra-75WXST-40-Channel-CB-Radio/dp/B00005N5WW

The installation is a little more permanent since there is a small remote unit that needs to be mounted somewhere in the truck, but the handheld unit can be disconnected and hidden away when not in use. Are you going to be installing a CB antenna and running coax into the cab as well?

I had one like that I ran for years. I would say it's barely adequate.

I have had one of these for about a year now. My 2 cents are that it's a pretty good mobile unit for being out of the truck spotting or running up the trail to check out obstacles, but it needs an external speaker as well as an external antenna to be a functional CB for inside the truck because the speaker isn't loud enough and the signal gets caught in the cab. It receives pretty well in the middle of a group, but it's hit or miss if people can hear me.

I'll keep it for the reasons above, but ultimately I will be installing a regular unit rather than trying to figure out a way to mount the radio, a speaker, and an external antenna. That kind of defeats the purpose of it being temporary and portable to begin with and will probably look ghetto no matter what I do.

I like the idea of it being portable too if needed.

lf you are going to the trouble to mount an antenna, I'd go with a full size that you can hear what is being said and get some range.

I had a Cobra for a while until it died for no reason.

I also had two Cobra dash cams crap out. So I'm done with Cobra lol

I have a Uniden CB now.

But on that note I will say we just installed an all in one Cobra unit into the crawler because our old CB also died in that (LOL) and a friend sold us a brand new one for $20 that he got in a raffle. We just had that one lying around anyway.

I put the cobra 75 in a few years ago and have not had a single problem.
You two are both on a long list of people I've wheeled with whose cb didn't work for one reason or another :D

    Shots fired!

I actually used the heck out of my cobra one since I had it while living in foco when we were doing sevenmile all the time. Eventually I started sounding like a chipmunk and nobody could understand me then eventually I couldn't broadcast out.

Same issue with the other (not sure what brand) could hear people but couldn't broadcast unless they were right next to us

I'll be in Longmont this weekend and have a SWR meter. We can knock it out real quick if you want.
