Assuming you grounded the antenna? Did you tune it yourself with an SWR meter? My SWR has always been fine, but because we have plastic beds there's not a lot of radiating surface. I've been thinking about trying out an NGP antenna, but it hasn't really been a high priority.

My current setup with the Cobra 75 has been working quite a while without issue. Even with the rusted metal rod hammered in the top of the antenna it still tunes perfect. You must be confusing me with James. My radio works fine, you just had to teach me not to yell in the mic. :D

I'm done shopping for today. And probably a little while. Today wasn't cheap but needed to be done.

Yeah it's grounded through one of the bed rail bolts with a short 10 gauge wire, and I verified I get a ground with the wire disconnected from the mount but I just can't get my SWR any better (based on my SWR meter readings). I'm taking it to Radio Service Center, hopefully this weekend. NGP seems like an option but I'd like to get their take on what the issue is first. Shipping costs killed me ordering different parts while attempting to resolve the issue.

Love them KO2's, just got some a little while back myself. Made some of the ice at slaughterhouse gulch easily traversible last weekend when my rubicon buddies were having trouble keeping traction.

You mean the ground wire just runs to the bed rail bolt? Because those and the rails aren't grounded to the frame, which you need to be. I ran my all the way down to the cab mount. I tested using braided ground wire vs regular 10 gauge or whatever it was after some reading about the difference between electrical ground and radio ground, but it didn't make a difference so I stuck with the regular wire.

Interesting, I've read that the ground wire needs to be really short but if that works for you I might have to give that a try. Thanks acidchylde.

Nobody likes RTO's, might as well just yell on the top of a mountain and hope the right person hears you.

All of you guys who bed rail mount will have this issue. There is no ground plain there. A mount where a "ditch light" would go would be better, best=roof mount.

I been wondering what everyone was using for CB radios. Only 4 pages later i am caught up. I been going back and forth on the cobra 75 or a larger unit. I understand the lager units usally bave the SWR builit in. I know i want somthing that can have a PA system in. Cause who doesnt like helling at your co workers in the parking lot!:D

    My setup:

This is on the driver side. Though I think I ended up running a wire to both sides just for the heck of it. And make sure to get metal to metal between wire and frame - through paint won't work.

I been wondering about this thinking of doing a passager side mount to be out of the way.

I don't have much room in my single cab so was thinking the 75 or getting a full size and mounting it where the radio goes and getting a simple deck for a radio. Anyone know if this is a good idea or can even be done?
