So about 2 months ago when i picked up my truck i got a small rockchip in the windshield on the way home. Today about 1*C outside i turn on the heater and it forms a crack. I hate replacing windsheilds as they never seat 100% and always start to rust out. Any thoughts would be nice.
I also saw multiple posts regarding cracks forming out of thin air on a cold day with the heat on. Should i tlk to my dealer or will they blame the crack.

You are out of luck on the dealer issue. No long term issues with a glass replacement when you use a reputable shop. Good thing is that there are no knock off windshields available yet for the 2016 Tacoma and you will get a replacement Pilkington glass.

Driving mountain passes year round means we rarely get a year out of a windshield. I've probably had more than 20 replacements, all worked fine...as stated above, it comes down to the installer.

Ive tried anywhere between 5-10 shops for windsheild replacements over the years and have not had one that did not rust at the top seal. All highly recommended shops and so on. Crystal glass, glassmasters, calgaryglass, dynasty autoglass etc... Maybe its just my badluck... Atleast with no chinese knockoffs i might get lucky. Only 50$ for a windsheild with my ami glass insurance. Booya!

Holy cow, rarely get a year out of a windshield? Sounds like a really bad design.

I have 4 vehicles and am constantly replacing something... Hvnt been driving long but i have had my share of windsheilds here in alberta. My van alone ive changed 3x and and the back door glass twice. Hence the reason i get glass insurance on all my vehicles. Its paid for itself. I will call the glass shop tomorow and get er ordered.

Not sure how rust appearing above the deal is due to windshield replacement. Unless the crack or chip the paint removing the old windshield. All they do is break the old urethane bond trim or scrap the old urethane off and place new sealant and glass/moldings. The urethane should cover and seal any scratch or anything where the window sits where it might have went to bare metal scraping/trimming the old sealant off. Nothing should rust

Perhaps you ended up getting a few small rock chips and those ended up rusting and bubbling? That may also explain your high rate of broken glass/windshield replacements

All different vehicles...we don't use salt on the roads, so no rust here, but pea gravel gets thrown by traffic. Every one gets glass replacement on their insurance.

I never thought about rock chips up there... Hmmm. I was under the impression the seal wasnt set properly and water was collecting under/behind it.

I was a installer for over 8yrs what I have noticed over the remaining years in doing glass the aftermarket glass got really cheap. And as your truck being so new you most likely have to go oem. Honestly I'd much rather have oem over aftermarket. But it will be pricey. New vehicle new glass.

And as far as your pinch weld goes I've seen alot of guys not sand down and reprime the pinch before install. Things to look at and give you a heads up

Doesn't help you now, but in the future if you don't want to replace the glass you can always get the chips filled which will help prevent the chip from turning into a crack. Most glass shops will do the job for under $50 or you can get a DIY kit at the auto parts store. That said, it didn't cost me anything additional for a $0 deductible on the glass replacement so I don't really have an incentive to fill the cracks anymore... I drive to Tahoe frequently and count myself lucky if I can make it a year without replacing the windshield on the truck or the 4Runner.

With the glass insurance chips are 15$each or 10$ if 3 or more. Any glass replacement is 50$ and my yearly payment is 150.
Got wuoted oem windsheild at 495.cdn

I saw elsewhere guys quoted over 800$$
If its 500 in canada it should be halfprice down there.

I would call a dealership and get a retail price of a windshield. I don't see how they are quoting $495 for OEM glass replacement

Sorry for the misunderstanding, i get the oem windsheild at 50$ for my truck with the glass insurance. As a curious taco owner i phoned the dealership to see what it was worth. Cochrane toyota quoted just shy of 500$ cdn not including install.
