Please explain how is Toyota fault, or problem with the truck that you did not read manual that says to engage 4hi at speed below 62 MPH (not stopped) wand not to engage when there is speed difference between front and rear axle (no slippage and no turn) ?

I just wanted to point out that 0 mph is below 62 mph. He was traveling 62 mph slower than he had to.

Son, you've got a thick skull and you're not taking a hint so let me help you out; I don't have to explain crap to you or need to convince you that you're wrong in order for me to sleep better tonight. Believe what you want - I don't care. I was there, you weren't. This isn't a debate hall, it's an internet forum. So go believe what you want and spray paint your keyboard gold if if makes you feel like you won the internet battle tonight. I swear, some people...

It's not about winning, it's about learning from mistakes. You made mistake if you learn from it it will not go to waste, if you stubborn and refuse to learn, you will repeat and second time Toyota will not warranty it. I really don't give much what you will do. I only tried helping you and others. Hey do me a favor print this thread and show your service manager and Toyota tech, see what they say :)

Right that's why Toyota writes for 4L : stopped or clutch below 2mph.

I'm sure they would read it and say you're an internet troll and that I should be the bigger man and walk away.

And if you really want to be helpful, trying being less of an asshat. You get more flys with honey than...you know what, it's time to watch tv and I'm bored with this conversation anyway.

Peace out my brothers. I'll let you all know once it's repaired and what they find was the failure that caused the problem in the first place. You know, because they're researching that...because they can tell that it was something besides user-error lol *smh

It doesn't say you have to be moving to engage 4H. It says you have to be going less than 62MPH. What's your native language? I'll get a translator

you can engage 4wd on pavement, please I do it all the time, just don't turn sharply. As for engaging below 62mph, it wont engage over 62mph, it'll just beep at you.

You are like that dude that jumped Tacoma, bend frame, posted on Tacomaworld than insisted Toyota should have made it stronger.
Sorry but if you require personal lessons on engaging 4wd I suggest talking to dealer I don't have to help you so I will not post any replays, but think about for a second. You broke truck than posted on public forum where a lot of Toyota techs come. Chances are your tech will see it.
 Good luck with you approach.

I doubt any Toyota techs would agree with you. You have no idea what you're talking about

Easier to just Ignore BlueT. He just seems to full of himself and thinking his 2nd gen is so superior to everything. He is just someone who has to much time and sits to much arm chair internet know it all.
P.S. I owned a 2nd gen and they had plenty of issues. The whole 6speed manual that was falling apart people tried to get a petition for a recall, also the throw out bearing groans like crazy. I switch mine in and out on dry roads with no issues. You just seem to happen to got a defective one. and it went. I guess glad it went now and not like right after the warranty was up

Jesus fuck...chill out. The OP probably got a bad transfer case actuator, warranty work and done. Toyota has been making electronically shifted cases since 1996 and if every one shit the bed every time the owner put it in 4wd back to 2wd sitting still on pavement then there would hardly be a 4Runner or truck on the road.

There's no partial engagement, there's a shift rail that is either engaged or not engaged by the actuator. Sometimes they need a roll to lock in or unlock but they are never in between.

Do you need to know, or care?
He's gone to watch Survivor now, so you can stop bashing him. In the end you may find not his fault, problem with the truck, maybe you should just wait for the outcome.

looks like I have another for the ignore list. The OP did absolutely nothing wrong. Snowy probably got it right, just a bad actuator, it happens. I would like to thank the OP for sharing his experience.

Shift on fly doesn't care if moving stopped etc. If it was done clicking not beeping and lights are out it think and should be out. There might be a small click just like the rear enfld locking when splines aren't lined up . I can shift mine stopped straight from 2wd to lo and any combination with no issues and stopped. Honestly the only time mine hasn't immediately went in to gear and made a small clunk from front was when I was on a slight incline.
