Expensive place to live is not much of a price to pay if that's what makes you happy.

I've got connections in Steamboat Mark, PM me if you have any interest.

Honestly, I would shoot for Lander or a place nearby like Pinedale if you can find work. That way you are close enough for a short drive for skiing/snowboarding, and you still have bad ass trails in your back yard.

What is it you even do? Expensive housing might be a small price to pay if it makes you happy but when the majority of your income will go to housing alone, it becomes pretty damn hard to do the things you like.

My top picks (in order) are Story, Buffalo, Lander, Sheridan, Powell/Cody.

I think Sheridan would be a cool place to live. And hasn't been hit by job loss like Casper has with the oil fields being down.

dunno. I do have connections in my field so I might be able to make something work. Like i said still all over the place
very aware. I havent researched too much but i know its bad. but like others said, if its a bucket list kind of place...i might not care.
I was thinking about other ski towns in CO, i sort of feel like if I am going to pick CO i would live in denver, i was picking small town JH because it is well...JH. my buddy who lives in FC said salida is where he would live if he could pick anywhere in the state. I saw a good number of related jobs in aspen too. but my friend says its full of assholes
still too far. im being a baby i know. But i figure if im going to do it, I want to do it 100% and live in the mecca of big mountain action sports. Im not shooting for any small town, i have my sights set on a rad ski town or Denver ha

Heck, give it a go then. Worse case scenario you end up broke as fuck and you move in a year to a place you can actually afford. Best case scenario is you land a sweet job and score a decent place for cheap.

+1 for Story. I miss living up there.

It's certainly not the worst place to live. Job market is definitely slow right now though. The old company I worked for (oil related) is completely in the tubes right now. Sad to see cause it was really booming before I moved to Colorado. Pretty much everyone i worked with is laid off now, probably 20-30 guys in that shop alone.

I grew up in salida, not really much of a town. Lots of drugs, meth was a pretty big hit when I left. Haven't been back in a number of years, so it might be better now.

Don't do aspen. That place is so stuck up holy shit. The small very very old house my aunts husbands family owns, as in no mortgage, pays 3.2 million in taxes on it alone.

You wouldn't end up livin there. You'd communte like everyone else.

Yea my other aunt used to dirt bag back in the 80s there. She loved it. No way in hell you can dirt bag it up there now. They have raised taxes and other stuff so high that only elite people can live there. My uncle said this might be the last season they keep the house. It's just gotten too much for them.

All of the people who work the slopes communte. Pretty much everyone that works in that town does. It's crazy.

While Aspen is probably the most expensive ski town in Colorado, there's no way in hell that's what they pay in property taxes.

Property taxes are public record, look it up with assessors office and let us know.

Wow, I thought my property taxes are high at $3.5K a year..

3 million does seem like too much tho. How big a piece of land is it? Is it a single home on it or is it multiple buildings?

Single house. It's like a block and half from the aspen mountain ski lift.

I hear house prices in pinedale are on the cheap. Fairly close to Jackson if you could find a job.
