2016 DCSB OR 6sp Manual- Text messages not reading out loud

My truck will only intermittently read out the text messages from the radio/ other times it will show on radio display but instead of it giving you option to read or ignore or call only the ignore is able to be depressed?? any ideas all my other tacoma have been fine just not sure if I'm doing something wrong but it does sometimes work.

 

I'm no help as mine always works. Samsung S6.

 

i have iphone 6s and never had problems on my 15 tacoma just trying to figure it out- phone functions work perfect.

 

All functions on my LG V10 work except messaging.....Don't use it much anyway,

 

wait ... this thing is supposed to read out text messages to me?

I have an iPhone 5, but a while back I turned a bunch of settings off to make it more secure. I'm sure I have something blocking it from working, so I just have to figure out what to turn back on ...

 

yea I didnt know it would read them to you either. I have to look into it too

 

If you have an iPhone and have the quick contacts set up it will not read the messages aloud. Unpair your phone and repair it, but do not add in the quick contacts. I had the same issue and this fixed it for me

 

Yeah a nice lady reads all of them to me. Even sends a text back to the sender that says I'm driving and I'll call later.

 

You want to try something trippy? Have someone send you a picture message. The truck will read that out loud (but the actual name of the picture file--it's pretty funny)

No other txts will come through.

 

What sense does that make? So you can't have anything in the quick contacts in order for the text messages to read to you. That's screwed up.

 

Is the quick contacts the 4 people you can select to call on the radio screen?

I don't know what the reasoning behind it is, but it literally fixed the text message issue for me as well as several other members on this forum. There's been a few other threads about it on here. I don't know what the engineers at Toyota were thinking when they designed the interfaces but they definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Yes, the quick contacts are the four number buttons on the home screen. You can still save people to favorites under the phone button, but not the quick buttons on the home screen.

 

OK i'll try it out thats weird that it all worked fine on my 15 , but ill give it a try and see if it works .

 

That should be a software fix. How does one get Toyota to recognize the problem and issue an update?

 

Take the car in for service and I imagine they keep track of stuff like this ...

 

The issue I have is my inbound messages can't be read unless i re set up the system after re start the truck. Any ideas on how I can get the truck to remember the settings. I'm using a i6

Thanks for this info, I have iPhone 6s+ and the phone worked great with the truck's entertainment/info system when given the tutorial at the dealer when delivered and didn't make the connection with setting up the quick contacts. I have talked to Entune/Toyota support 4x on the phone and no satisfaction. Did a reset of the system, forgot the bluetooth connection/phone deleted phone/user info from Entune system and started over with the quick contacts left blank and using the two pane or just navigation screen and now no more problems. Thanks!

 

Go into the bluetooth settings for the connected truck and make sure show notifications is turned on. Wouldnt work with mine until I did that.
