Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
LCE also makes a long tube header for the 1st gens. This what it looks like on my 1996 after running it for over ten years. The finish holds up really well...

The runners are long enough to eliminate the down tube and to bolt directly onto the cat. Makes lots of low end torque. :)

No. I left the stock cat alone so that it would pass smog inspections. Cats don't hurt performance.

How many cats do you have on your 2012?

My '03 has 2 which eliminated any thoughts on going with the long tube header.

My 2012 has (edit) two cats, and they don't interfere with the exhaust flow. Long tube headers allow the engine to reach it's peak torque at lower rpms.

^^ 2nd gen 2TR-FE motor has TWO cats... 100% positive because i cut the second one out.

it does very little other than further reduce emissions and has no post cat o2 sensor like the first cat. the restriction in flow is minimal, but there.
power gains from removing it?.... I have no clue because I never did a dyno back to back for comparison.

Does your truck still pass emissions with only one cat?

will NOT pass "visual inspection" in Cali. tailpipe emission test is no longer required for year 2000+....... they only do visual and plug into obd2 port now.

some places will not even check visual.. or you ask them to please close their eyes and buy them donuts

I'm looking into getting the Flowmaster delta 50 you recommended. Which combination of inlets and outlets did you find fit the best, center in center out, offset in center out, etc.. Thanks again tooter, sry for all the q's.
    Cool thanks!

Boom! The thread is coming back to life!
I asked the same thing in a pm. Its a 2.5 inch center inlet and off center outlet work best. He said that center/center a muffler shop could make work. You will also need extra pipe because the muffler is shorter then the stock muffler. I will be doing this mod shortly

That's good to know, thanks! However i was under the impression the exhaust is actually 2.25" so wouldn't the muffler have to be that size as well?

From what I was told the pipe is 2.5" I dont know for sure because as I said I haven't done it yet. I will leave this question up to @tooter to handle. He is a VERY knowledgeable guy when it comes to the 4 cylinders. Sorry for not answering your question, I just dont want to tell you any wrong information.

My stock pipe was 2 3/8" so I believe it's some metric size. 2 1/2" muffler ends will work fine. 2 1/4 ends will need to be swedged to fit. I know because I bought a 2 1/4" Flowmaster, and the ends needed to be opened up on a hydraulic machine.

Good to know, I'll order 2.5 then, thanks Tooter! I won't be welding this I'll be using lap joints to connect it. Hopefully that works!

I think the joints could just a little loose because of the odd tubing size, but you should be able to cinch down the U bolts enough to seal. I had a muffler guy do mine because he really knows his business. He fabricated a mandrel bent custom exhaust with all the hangers to fit a hole I made in the rear bumper. The installation was perfect. :)

I like the custom exhaust! I've actually decided on going with 2.25. I think it will fit better. I'm going to expand the pipe about 1/8" with an exhaust pipe expander and then fasten the joints together with butt clamps. Did you have your exhaust welded Tooter?
