Tapping Noise from Passenger Dash Speaker (SOLVED)

I have read the various other threads about rattles and other interior noises and vibrations. I cannot seem to get an exact answer. Here is a video showing the noise I am experiencing during colder drives in the morning. I took it to the dealership twice regarding the issue, and of course they "could not replicate" it.

HOLEY CRAP!!!!!

That is the noise that I got from my right side of the dash. I thought it was the speaker at first, but the stereo was off. Everytime the outside temp got below 45F, it would make that noise like a squeak.

There must be a solenoid or something under there. It is about 70F outside and the noise is gone.

We still never figured out what it was!

 

Same problem on mine. I'll investigate while I swap out the tweeters in the coming weeks.

yes and we sent this same pic to our salesman

took it in once, and we got the same answer from the Toyota tech, "couldn't duplicate"

 

Wow .... that is just great ... how am I gonna get that covered under warranty? What is the part number for the toothpicks? Do they have Toyota written on the side of them? I don't want to void my warranty!

I couldn't see any rubbing on mine, but it was squeaking on the way to work this morning. I will try this fix when I get home or if I stop by COSTCO and get some free food samples .... then I will have some toothpicks ... LOL

yeah, i shimmed some grey felt weatherstrip i had laying around and the rubbing is gone.

 

Mine ONLY does that when it was cold. 58F this morning and it was squeaking. At 75 - 80F or above no noise.

I guess my Taco doesn't like the cold.

 

No music going. Just cold outside and the first drive of the day. Doesn't sound like plastic either..

 

mine doesn't do it when its warm either. since the plastic is softer, when they rub it wont make a sound. when the plastic is harder due to cold it will squeak louder.

 

Mine goes away when the temp rises as well

Strange! Maybe it is because the plastic is harder when it's cold

I will check mine tomorrow morning. If it squeaks I will pullover and stick some toothpicks in there.

 

Removed my A-pillar and tweeter cover as part of my speaker upgrade. The A-pillar seemed to be kind of hung-up coming out, but went back in quite a bit smoother. While it was off, I really didn't see much that would be causing the noise. However, now that it's back on the noise seems to be gone. May have been how the A-Pillar was wedged in there from the factory. It's an easy 2 bolts to R&R.

 

Maybe I'll try this. Another TW member mentioned applying a felt strip along the A-pillar or on the speaker cover itself to prevent the rubbing of the two plastic interior pieces.

 

Lol...I have this same noise...never thought much of it as I only notice it when the radio isn't on...but I think mine does it regardless of temperature

 

It's annoying when you're driving down the road with the stereo off. I feel like Toyota overlooked so many things when designing the '16s
