Found a trailer I'm going to look at this evening and probably will buy site on scene if it checks out. The guy selling it says it has a 6 pin wiring harness. He also mentioned I'll need a brake controller.

So Im going prepared with a 7-6 pin adapter- however my question is regarding the brakes and the controller.
Does one need the brake controller wired if he has the 7 to 6 adapter.....?
I would assume the adapter takes care of the lead for the pin that says "electric brakes" on our pin cover.

I have a Tekonsha I ripped out of my 2nd gen before I got rid of it-but haven't wired it up yet.

Input from the seasoned towing guys appreciated!! :drunk:
Not much time for searching threads as I just found the trailer and leaving directly from work.

The brake controller is what supplies power to the brakes. His trailer probably runs a 6 pin because it either doesn't need a Aux wire (reverse light, reverse lock out, add. 12v). So you bringing an adapter is only so it will fit into your trucks 7 pin connector. If your driving it home empty you shouldn't have any problems unless in your state the trailer is mandated to have a trailer brake. That varies and depends on weight. If it's a smaller utility trailer and your not hauling much, and it's not required to have a brake controller then you may not even need one

Not sure what your laws in your Providence are or in Canada in general. Might want to call a place that sells trailers and ask. If you have a short trip back home you should be fine without any brake controller. The Tacoma doesn't have the best stopping power so maybe it's in your best interest to add the brake controller even if it's not required. Always better to be safe than sorry. Towing is dangerous or can be if people aren't careful

@Lawfarin turns out the guy selling it didn't count the center pin. Lol - so in fact the 7 pin hooked up just fine. Thanks though.

Picked this old girl up tonight. She pulled great. Stoked to get out there this season!!20160316_201010.jpg
