I don't think I ever heard that if it's a manual. Unless the synchros are FUBAR'd then you might not want to change it?

That sounds like a super high number to me too, but just a handful of things and you're easily at half that number. I would be curious to an actual list. But not unbelievable.

My girlfriend wants to learn how to drive a manual transmission. She's just slightly above a terrible driver, so no way that's happening on my truck.

Not a single car with a manual transmission on any rental lot in the entire region. FFS.

 

There's a 93% chance that I'm not being serious half the time.

My front suspension was almost 5k alone. And its only about 1/3rd of the stuff I need for the front to be how I want.

10k is nothing.

 

That's exactly what I was worried about too. It did wobble while driving just on the roads, so I went and got a beefy industrial hinge and replaced the bolt on the tire side (the Jerry can mount is more than strong enough using the bolt method). With the hinge, it feels much stiffer in the closed position, but has about the same amount of flex at full swing, and believe me, I reinforced the reinforcements. That being said, to anyone who wants to build their own swing out bumper, I highly recommend using a spindle specifically designed for this type of application. My setup works, but it is more crude than I had anticipated. Thank you for those who warned me about the issues with non-spindle approaches, I can see now why these bumpers are so expensive.

Did a small offroading trip today.

 

I figure my truck has been paid off for 5 years and I plan to keep it another 10. Considering the cost of new trucks these days, I'll be way ahead even if I spend another 20K over that time.

 

I use a square end trailer spindle and a grade 8 bolt with the head of CV joint welded to the bolt as the latch. Zero play or clunk in mine and all the parts were about $30.

 

I taught my girlfriend to drive a manual in my last taco. Now she drives a yaris with a manual tranny. After my truck goy hit i bought the first truck i found that was in good shape and in my price range. Unfortunately it is an auto (got the v6 this time around though!) So I drive her car as much as i can can't rip through gears on that like i can on my DRZ though!

 

This. Wait until you look into doing a solid axle....

 

oh yeah and tundra brakes. There has been so much I haven't kept track now. I just see something I like so I go for it. My dad says I'm a idiot but hey.. My money right. If I enjoy it then why not.
