Nerf/Sidestep Bars decision on 3rd gen

Looking for some sidestep or nerf bars. I am looking at these currently:

But im having trouble convincing my wallet it's worth $350. Does anyone have these and a pic of your truck, or a different, possibly less expensive option and the photos of the nerf bars intalled. Thank you in advance.

 

If you were going that route the Predators are tits up, but prone to step breakage, better solution is a good set of sliders, bolt on are the easiest for your installation and there are several vendors who build and provide several finish options for you,,,,do a quick search of the site.

 

Take a look at "Body Armor 4x4 TC-4121"

$291 on Amazon. Someone posted a photo on another string and I broke down and bought a pair within an hour. Installed yesterday and pretty pleased.
Would have liked sliders but not going to spend the $500 for a pair when I don't do any serious 4 wheeling anymore.

@Tacuache345 How hard was the installation for these, and to they feel sturdy when you step on the steps themselves?

 

I got these same ones for my truck last week. Easy to install yourself if you use a couple of jack stands to help hold them up. They bolt right into the rocker panel after you remove the factory plugs. I'd say they are pretty sturdy but with them not being bolted to the frame they do have their limits. But they look nice and rugged.

 

@Raptor__20 When you have a moment, would you mind shooting a link to where you bought the ones that you have installed. The ones that were referenced earlier in this article came with some cheezy lookin led's. The sturdy part I was askin about is most of my friends are 250+ pounds, so I need some good and sturdy steps.

@Raptor__20 all of the ones I see are for te 2005-2011 models. Are the mounting points the same on those as they are on the 2016 model?

 

From the looks of the pictures you sent me those would mount in the same places as mine. I spoke to body amour before I got mine and they mentioned the only difference between the models is that toyota moved one of the front mounting bolts. so instead of having 6 bolts that mount the 3 brackets there's 2 bolts on the middle and rear bracket but only one bolt on the front one. If a person so wanted too you could add a piece of steel to the bracket to make it reach the newer mounting hole and give it more weight bearing capabilities.

About the LED"s and the foot pads. Those were extra where I bought them. I didn't opt for them as I'm thinking of putting a different anti-slip pad into the pockets.

I got mine locally from a 4 wheel company here in calgary canada so I'm not sure where you might source them where your from. Their website lists the local distributors and that's where I found the link to where I got them.

yes those are the same ones. The ones pictured do have the LED's and the rubber pads that screw tot he steps but mine didn't come with those. Even on the body armour site they are extra. I've read of some guys hooking up their own LED's and making their own foot pads. I'm trying to decide if I just want to cut out some diamond plate and texture plate it or just put down some texture tape. the screw holes for the pads are already all their so it would be a matter of just making a template for them.

One thing to not if you do get them. I had one side that was a bear to get the rail mounted to the bracket. The pre-drilled holes just seems a touch small. next time I would mount the brackets to the rails first and leave them a little loose and then mount them to the truck instead of mounting the brackets to the truck and trying to install the rails. just my 2 cents. if you want to follow the directions they ive you I would check each moutning hole on the back of the rail to see how tight the bolt is to go into it.

 

My mechanic did it for $50.00 and yes they are very sturdy.

 

Has anyone installed the Predator bars themselves? Long story... Mine got shipped to me (dealer screwup, free). Now I have them and the sticker on the box says "Installation instructions are on the electronic Toyota Information System TIS. See dealer for a copy".

 

Anyone put these on their 2016 Tacoma They are from Toyota. I like the way they fit close to the rocker panel

Installed 3" Nfabs myself, same basic size and shape as the Predators. There are already holes drilled out on the driver and passenger side of the vehicle, simply remove the plastic plugs, line everything up, and bolt on. Should be a pretty quick install.

Came with all bolts/washers. However, there's two wide spacer type washers. Any idea which particular spot they go?

 

That's weird - approximately how big? If there's only two, I would assume the front bracket on each side since it only takes one bolt. The NFabs were only packaged with 10 bolts/washers/lock washers.

 

Try this:

2. Install the Passenger Side Tube Step.
(a) Position the tube step to the passenger side of
the vehicle.
NOTE: The long bracket goes to the front of the
vehicle (Fig. 2-1).
NOTE: For the following steps, the use of a
non-impacting type electric hand tool can be
used to drive the bolts so long as the bolt does
not reach or exceed the specified torque. Leave
all hardware loose at this time.
(b) Start one 8mm bolt into the outside slotted
hole in the center bracket (Fig. 2-2).
(c) Start one 8mm bolt into the outside slotted
hole in the rear bracket.
NOTE: The kit comes with two (2) M8 x 19mm
x 5mm thick washers. These washers are for the
FRONT OUTSIDE position only. DO NOT use
these washers in any other location.
(d) Start one 8mm bolt and with one 5mm flat
washer into the “outside” hole in the front
bracket (Fig. 2-3).
(e) Start the remaining 8mm bolts, starting with
the front bracket working to the rear.
3. Tighten all Hardware.
(a) Tighten (but do not torque) the front outside
bolt , then the rear outside bolt , and
finally the center outside bolt (closest to
the pinch weld) (Fig. 3-1).
NOTE: As the bolts closest to the pinch weld
are tightened, push the bracket inward to
maximize clearance to the pinch weld.
(b) Tighten (but do not torque) the remaining
bolts as indicated in Fig. 3-1.
4. Torque all Hardware.
(a) Follow the tightening sequence in Fig. 3-1 to
torque the “outside bolts” through .
Torque: 23 N-m (17 ft-lbf)
(b) Follow the tightening sequence in Fig. 3-1 to
torque the “inside bolts” through .
Torque: 23 N-m (17 ft-lbf)

Tightening sequence is: front outer, rear outer, middle outer, front inner, rear inner, middle inner.
