So I'm purchasing a 2015 TRD Sport with the trail teams sport package. It says it's supposed to come with an additional body skid plate. From the photos that I was sent (haven't seen it in person yet) and from what the sales person advised me it does not have the silver/grey skid plate that you see from the front in a lot of photos, instead he said it has a larger black coloured skid plate that covers more of the underbody. Anyone with a double cab trail teams package able to confirm this for me please? I'm in Canada if that makes a difference, sometimes we have slight variations in packages. It's got the TRD exhaust, roof rack and side steps as advertised. Just want to make sure I'm not over looking it.

This is the best photo I have, but you can clearly tell there is no silver skid plate.

That's funny...this is an exact quote from toyota canada website...

The 2015 Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab V6 may also be enhanced with the Trail Teams Sport Package, which adds: unique black side-step bars; TRD exhaust system; front skid plate; roof rack with cross bars; and Trail Teams Sport decals.

Not sure what you'd call then.

You'll probably have to rely on a fellow Canadian TWer to help you out, but I think the salesman is uninformed (not surprisingly).

There is a "standard" skid plate that all Tacos have. It's black and mostly covers the under side of the engine. There is a "factory option" skid plate that is silver and goes on "top of" the standard skid plate.

If I were in your shoes, before I signed anything, I would make sure the dealership actually installed the factory option skid plate before you commit to buy. It's about a USD $175 part if you purchased one yourself, but if they claim it comes with the package then hold them to their word.

Also, here is a video of a Trail Teams Tacoma for your comparison:

I haven't signed anything yet and I'm waiting to hear back from the sales guy. He told me the factory add on doesn't come with it on the package, but there is no other OEM skid plate according to the parts department of another Toyota dealer and the description clearly states front skid plate. He tried to tell me it was the stock skid plate which I know is not the case, as you stated thats an underside skid plate that comes stock on every model I believe.

I think the dealers make up there own packages. A buddy traded in an old Toyota truck and the dealer installed vinyl down the sides (to hide scratches) and labelled it "California edition".

I agree with Matt, peel off the sport or off road stickers, have a graphics shop can design and install. $$$$$$$$$

If you mechanically inclined, its cheaper and more fun to build it yourself, at least that's how I feel.

I should rephrase... there is no such thing as a Trail Teams sport package from the factory, there might be some scummy dealer "upgrade package" named as such. But there is no factory option of the sort for the tacoma. All the dealer is doing is putting on standard TRD add ons and charging you even more so for them.

I noticed this video in my searching as well. Dealer has agreed to install one at no charge now, if he didn't I was likely going to back out. Sounds like a small deal but just left a bad feeling.

I do think there is a factory Trail Team Edition in Canada. Someone on here sent me pictures of the bedside decals last year.
