It uses tones to access repeaters in range and has a low 5 watt and high 65 watt setting to extend that range

everyone i run with, we use vhf. most of us run the icom f5021. its a much cleaner signal compared to cb, however with the right equipment cb will reach a lot farther. vhf is nice because you arent stuck with the same channels as everyone else

Still TBD. Probably in the center console if it fits, or in the cubby below the radio and cabin controls.

Can I get something like that at lowes or where do you suggest? Also did you ground it directly from under your antenna or on the hood mounts to fender/frame etc.?

My 4' antenna did great. My 3' antenna literally got tuned 3 weeks ago so I have yet to really get a chance to test it. And I think the cobra 75 is great for what we do. When I step to a big boy radio it will be HAM as I want to do more long distance travel into remote areas.

you got a new antenna? @Gramps

I was thinking of getting a 5' firestick at some point just to get me a little further over the cab. My pops has a couple HAM handhelds and a HAM unit in his truck if you have questions he could help ya out or I'm sure Brian can help too.

I'm just wondering if it's worth getting or if I should cough up the extra 20–30 dollars and buy a full-size CB. How much did you pay that old CB radio expert guy to do the tuneup or whatever he did? And did that make it equivalent to a full-size?

I think it was like $25 to tune it. I don't remember really. You do get more functionality from a full CB. I just have never seen the need to change. His tune helped a ton. If I actually did a real antenna on my roof like Brian then it would be an awesome little radio.

What is a "real antenna"? Is the fire stick not good?

Does the roof mount antenna make a drastic improvement in performance? Or is a 4 foot fire stick mounted to my front bumper good-nuff?

Good enough for trail communications. If you want more then a mile or so range you have to commit to a better setup
