Good afternoon, I'm new to the forum and looking to buy a Tacoma. I'm looking at two Tacoma's. One is Auto and one is a 6spd manual. I like driving stick, but have only driven my moms 2005 Bmw thats a stick, I was wondering what you guys thought Automatic / manual (6spd)

    Buying new (2016) or used?

2nd gen auto is a beast and reliable as hell. It was designed for the 4.7 v8. Better mileage than stick, better resale, not as fun... but you can always make loud engine noises and turbo hisses with your mouth if that's what you're into.

Seems like people are pretty unhappy with the auto in the 3rd gen constantly shifting.

Oh sorry, I thought that since this was the 2nd gen thread, it was implied I was looking at a 2nd gen.

I think the 2nd gen manual is a good transmission and the 2nd gen auto is a great transmission. You can't go wrong with either, and if you really enjoy the manual, its worth the trade off for the additional reliability and convenience of an auto.
