    I checked the torque on the other 4 bolts that keep the bed in place... 3 of them were barely at 30-35 ft/lb and one was at 55 ft/lb. It is not that I am terribly concerned about it, as those bolts are long and have a lot of thread. But it does surprise me a bit that those don't seem to be torqued properly, plus, I am a bit concerned that I can strip the bolts (or worse the nut in the frame) if I torque them all to 60 ft/lb.

    The front 2 that I took out to install D-rings got undone with not much effort so I think those weren't anywhere near 60 ft/lb either. Weird...

    Don't worry I torqued all mine to 55 ft lbs on a calibrated torque wrench. I could have torqued them more they are stout!! not going to strip unless you cross thread them to begin with and even that is all but impossible with the shoulder guide on them. I dis all 4 of mine one at a time and I agree all were around 35~40 but one was at 55 ft lbs.

    Did it this weekend (on valentines day) while the wife was getting ready to go out. The hardest part was making the holes bigger in the D ring clip because I didn't have a bit that size.

    Looks great, I like the extra ones in the middle. I was thinking about getting a bed mat and installing extra ones.

    What do you guys think about just drilling holes through the mat and having the rings/washer/bolt head sit on top of it rather than cutting out pieces of the mat? This way the mat would be bolted down in place so it wouldn't move and would be theft proof and probably look a bit cleaner.

    i installed new d rings on the side of the bed like the instructions show. They go on the side of the bed, above the bolt that holds down the bed to the frame. Anyone else do this? the plastic there seems kind of thin if you ask me. so Im a little worried.

    Curt hitch, D-rings, bed mat
    I just cut slits in the bad mat for the D-rings to poke through. I usually just leave them sticking up through the mat, but I have the option of lifting the mat up, folding the D-rings down, and then covering them with the mat. That way if I'm ever carrying something that I don't want to scratch up, the D-Rings will be covered by the mat.

    this is how i filed down my rings on the bolt. i didn't have a dremel so i put the bolt in a drill and as it spun i took a file to it. worked great.
