wouldn't that be great to get manual diffs and xfer case...as an option of course. 3 levers on the center console. Not being sarcastic, dead ass serious, simplicity is the best engineering.

Nope, maybe some but not here. I was a 3rd gen fan long time before trading mine 2nd gen.
And I see this everywhere motocross forums, jeeps, guns etc etc all over,Is just that some people is just afraid or skeptical to change, envy, or just need some time to let new things to grow in their eyes.
And please don't get me wrong I'm not pointing at you or someone else is just my own perception, on how this topic is on every aspect in live.

I waited a long time for Toyota to give the Tacoma a make over, I have wanted to get a new one for the last 6 to 7 years but I refused to buy a 2nd Gen, so of course I prefer the 3rd Gen.

Sometimes, ok, many times, that's true. But sometimes it's just more 'dumbing down'. Sometimes it's just pending obsolescence.

Made a living in technology for a few years, like many here I'm sure.

Sometimes it's great, altruistic, cost beneficial, etc. Sometimes it's just a LOB interested in margin.

Which side do many (most?) consumer products fall on?

So you're disagreeing with my post but you vote for 3rd gen and own a 3rd gen.
In the end. Go with what you PREFER like what the OP is asking.

I prefer to have a paid off 2009 over a new 2016. Maybe in a year or two I will prefer something else.

Traded a '12 Sport DCSB for a '16 Sport DCSB. I had the JBl package on the '12 and do on the '16 as well.
The 16 is a much nicer ride. The '12 back up camera was crap, the sound in the '16 is better as is Nav and voice recognition. Better gas mileage, sunroof etc.

I was happy with both trucks, but I prefer the 3rd gen.

I owned a 2005 Xrunner for 5 years, traded it in back in 2010.. Really liked the truck. When toyota first announced the 3rd gen I didnt like it. After seeing in person I changed my mind. I will say I like this truck better then my 2nd gen was. Interior feels like its caught up to modern days, Looks good on the front end, SOO much quieter and smoother then the 2nd gen. I wouldnt have owned another 2nd gen as as they got older and the face lifts I thought they got worse looking. so yes I think the 3rd gen is better then the 2nd gen in my eyes

Even If I still owning my 09 I will def go for the 3rd gen.

Yeah because you said: People who own 2nd gen with vote 2nd gen.
People who own a 3rd gen will vote 3rd gen.

I don't want either one at this point. I like the old school Tundra with the 4.7l V8 and no VSC.

Thanks for replying to this post everyone, this is some good stuff. I'm seriously going to consider the 3rd gen. If I can't find the options that I want in the 16, then the 17 will be coming out in August.

i just don't see the 3rd gen being better in anyway. Sure it might get better milage and it has more bells and whistles but thats it.Every manufacture changes designs and power options every decade or so. Changing things doesn't mean what they create is instantly better. Anyway i recently had the opportunity to buy any new truck i wanted and i chose a new 15 because i wasn't that impressed with the 16. I chose what i chose because it's what i liked better. I just cannot with a clear conscience state the 15 is better than the 16..But good luck to you who have no problem stating the 16 trumps the 15.

Ok I'm here, what did I miss? I see there was already a gangbang.

Does the 3rd gen have power seats? What about disc brakes?
