Great thread. I have a quick question regarding canyonlands if you don't mind.. what are your thoughts on taking a stock tacoma down the flint trail without sliders? OK or asking for it? I've always considered sliders kind of a priority but in the particular situation I'm in right now I'd like to hold off on them. Thanks.

it's always hard for me to answer questions like that as i am no where near stock and have armor everywhere...so i don't often think about things like that :)

and being as remote as that area is, i would check out any and all trip reports you can find for similar vehicle setups.

biggest concern would be tire selection back there...if you have street tires, i would not advise going back there...for risk of sidewall puncture as well as traction concerns. even a decent AT tire would be fine in good conditions...not so much if there's been any rain or snow

Thankyou sir. couldn't agree more on tires.

From what I can tell that "z-turn" and a few ledges are the biggest challenges. I'm used to a jeep and 4runner so the long wheelbase of the taco had me worried. I'm thinking careful driving should be sufficient but always like to have firsthand accounts. Thanks again.

so if you're talking about ledges, are you talking about getting into the maze?

when i think flint trail, i think primarily of the decent down the orange cliffs...from hans flat ranger and down to waterhole flat (where the maze trail picks up)

there's definitely some spots that you can ding your rocker panel and bumpers on the section from teapot rock over to the land of standing rocks..i know we hit sliders and bumpers...and that's really getting in there, so you definitely want dependable tires.

again, we usually try hard lines too...so there may be easier lines (make sure to stay the trail though!)

4:45 is the flint trail descent over to sunset pass

5:23 is when we approach teapot and enter the harder trail to the maze
you can see around 6:00 where the big ledge is

i mean you can definitely give it a shot...take your time and have a spotter available...and as i've said, make sure you have dependable tires that can handle conditions if they were to turn...our forecast didn't show rain, but it rained every day..
