The only way I ever got email to work with exchange on my Android phone was to point it at the Outlook Web Access address (OWA)

    That what you're trying?

    Exactly.

The functionality itself is not full, active sync. It only updates at a set intervals. I set it to every 15 minutes and try to enjoy the fact that I don't have a real-time leash.

In my case, the conglomerate I work for won't allow for any other method. Might be your case too.

EDIT -- You can, of course, manually refresh it.

All I have is email. I don't think my phone has any support for Calendar/Contacts at all.

All I have is a T-Mobile G1 running CyanogenMod though. I think the Droid and a few phones available in the Euro market have better exchange support.

Have you tried K9mail? Its much better than the internal email app in the droid. The exchange support is supposed to be better. but, i cant confirm this since i dont use exchange.
