So I picked up my truck on 01 MAR, TRD OR DCSB BBP. I literally got it off of the truck with 4 miles on it. On 8 MAR, I heard a very loud squealing coming from the truck, so of course I took it back to the dealership after recording the sound. I was told by the technician and service manager that it is a normal noise for the engine, and that it is the high pressure fuel pumps being cleaned. I really wasn't satisfied with that answer so I told them both that I would get a better recording and would come back if it did not go away or get if it got worse. Well it did, I took another video on Sunday evening and was back at the dealership Monday morning. This time the truck was taken back, and I was told the same thing. I was somewhat content with the answer until the GM and I were standing out in the parking lot waiting for my truck to come back from getting filled up (since I had been back there for the noise and an issue with the Extang cover they had installed). When he heard it he said "hell no" and went to get the tech and the service manager. This is when I heard the tech say that noise was coming from under the engine, not on top where the pump is. At this point I was getting pissed and figured I would have to take it to another dealership and get it looked at. Last night I made another recording and let a friend at work listen to it (car/truck guy that knows what he's talking about) and he thought it was the torque converter. I really did accept that being that some have been low on trans fluid, but he said that he would come out and listen to it after I got back up to temp. Well turns out it was coming from the exhaust rattling. I left right then and went back to the dealer ship and here's what was ultimately found:

    IMG_2623.jpg IMG_2622.jpg

A support bracket for the exhaust had bolt hanging on literally by about 2 threads. It was rattling around and making the harmonic sound similar to a belt of pulley. All parties involved were very apologetic, filled up my truck again, and said to bring back anytime to have it detailed.

Just something I wanted to share. Not a huge deal, just frustrating driving a brand new vehicle that sounded like a 73 POS. I will say that the service department was truly apologetic about somewhat placating my concern. They are sending the photos to the regional tech and to corporate.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Sounds like a 10 hour detail job to me. No hands. Only microfiber, a clay bar, polishes/waxes, and a ROB.

    Bring a lawnchair.

Flashlight and underneath. It was nice being able to see the truck on the lift. Follow the exhaust up the driver's side, look for a bracket holding the exhaust in place. Not sure if you'll be able to see it from up top.

Trust me, you'll win. I actually like the tires, had it out in a field near Cassidy MOUT yesterday (RG 64), for legitimate purposes (ALARACT says I have to have signs put on the CS chamber), and had no issues even with all the ruts and slick mud.

The dealership was really helpful, but not at first. Randy and Steve have been stellar every time I've had to go down there. Steve told me to bring it back for a detail, and they have filled it up every time I've taken it in. Much better than the other local Toyota dealership.

I hate going to the stealership.
They're either in utter disbelief that something is actually wrong on a brand new vehicle, or just don't want to spend the time to diagnose a problem.
    And that's the key...Time....
Because if you show them were the problem is, they're usually good on making it right.

That's basically what I had to do. The service coordinator said that if I wasn't so persistent, then it would still be squealing. I will say, the service manager had a look of disgust when I mentioned a friend isolated the problem area in about 2 seconds in a parking lot.

What you may not understand is the techs don't get paid if they can't find a problem. Toyota doesn't pay them for a warranty repair if they can't find or duplicate a problem. Even if they do see or find the problem they are only allocated a certain amount of time to fix the problem. They could spend 2 hours diagnosing and fixing your truck and only get paid 7/10 of an hour for the job. Until you work and get paid that way it may be hard to understand.

That being said some dealerships want their customers completely satisfied, and they will take care of the technician for the time lost helping to take care of a customer. However not all places do this. In a dealership time is money, and customer pay stuff trumps warranty all day long.

You guys are saying the same thing. Now, OP, find the problem so the techs can take credit for it, fix it, and get paid for it! Get'er done!
