So I'm currently trying to remove a CV axle from a steering knuckle that I bought to put on one of my trucks. As some may know the nuts are torqued down like crazy. Normally I would just use the weight of the truck to undo the bolt but can't for obvious reasons. Can anyone suggest something short of going out and buying air tools. I've tried putting it in a vice but can't get enough clamping power. Thanks in advance.

Well with the vice and a long breaker bar don't work then an impact gun your best friend.

    That's what I was thinking. I was using a 2' breaker.

Try a longer breaker bar for example jack handle.

The longer handle wont make a difference. The main issues is while its sitting in the vice its just spinning, no matter how hard I clamp that bad boy. Actually was having problems getting it back out afterwords.

Take it to a small independent garage, offer to give them a few bucks if they bust it loose with an impact. I'd bet they'd end up doing it for free if slow and you may just find some place to do work you're not set up st home to do.

So with the tire mounted...now it just rolls away. I put my wife on top of it and it still rolls. Any plan on how to keep it in one place while I crank on it?

Pipe wrench. Use a Pipe wrench to hold axle and work as a stopper and breaker bar to turn the nut should work.

So the only way to get those off is using air tools. I went into work tonight and used our shop. Took less time than writing this post. Thank you everyone for the help.

Air tools or break the nut loose with the tire on and the truck on the ground or someone inside standing on the brakes while you break it loose.

Lesson learned: dont take it apart like that and save some headache. Good for future searches.
