But he was already taking it in to do the fluid check he just happen to notice the issue taking it in for that. They didnt give me any hassle about having it checked like alot of people seem to be running into.
I might call corporate and see what they can do for me. Someone said toyota replaced their trans for 1/2qt low and some slipping. Mine was 2qt low and noticed the issue from R-D. so I wonder if they will give me an extended warranty to 100,000 on my trans

After reading all of the transmission threads here you guys made me paranoid. :spy: I took my truck into Voss Toyota (Beavercreek, OH) and told them to check my transmission fluid and all my other fluids. They were fantastic to deal with and didn't hassle me at all about wanting to check the transmission fluid on a truck with 3,600 miles. Turns out I was "over a quart low" according to my service advisor! He said his service manager had his monthly conference call with Toyota on Monday and was informed about the 2016 Tacos and low transmission fluid. So it appears Toyota is now getting the hint! If you have the tow package I would definitely get it checked. Also my rear differential was .5 quarts low...

    Two questions:

    1. How much damage was done to my transmission by being "over a quart low" for 3,600 miles? I have only done city and highway driving...no towing or off-roading.

    2. I'm pissed that Toyota can't figure out how to put the correct amount of transmission fluid in their vehicles. I am definitely going to call corporate and see if I can get an extended warranty on my transmission since they screwed up. I realize I'm probably screwed, but it doesn't hurt to try. Has anyone had any luck trying to get something out of Toyota?

I think you're talking about me. Mine was half a qrt low and they replaced it. The tech retested after topping off and issues still persisted. Again, repeating the issue for the tech is the key.

I was having the surge when going from "R" to "D". Now that I have the right amount of fluid the transmission seems to have smoothed out.

To be clear mine was more for hard shifting whole driving, r to d delay doesn't seem to be a cause for concern.

There is also a known issue (tsb) for 2016 tacomas with 2tr 4 cyl engines that have issues when shifting from 2-3. ecu reflash is the fix!

At least 3% of the trucks sold are going to have transmissions replaced prematurely at this point. The real concern should be how many are not being replaced because Toyota has not done the homework to explore this issue and root it out completely.

80% of all statistics are 112% completely made up.

Even then 3% is better than second gen tacos and 4runners.Guess third gen is an improvement.

Still on the sauce huh? Get it!

    Clearly.

Disagree with the almighty smitty99 and you must be a marketer!

My transmission was replaced from this issue. I must be the world's shittiest marketer.

I had another account before with a few hundred posts just don't know the login. Came back here to update folks on the transmission issue since mine was replaced I figured I could help clear up some confusion since I've been through every stage of this process. Too many here like yourself don't know what they are talking about and are spreading misinformation that is making the issue worse.

Ok Chief so you had your transmission replaced and now you're the resident Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability expert for all of corporate Toyota and their manufacturing processes? Oh you're also a master statistician...thanks boss.

Once again I never said any of that.

But thanks to trolls like yourself it's impossible to provide useful information for people who are actually having issues. I went through this entire process... Started with low fluid and ended with a replaced transmission, so yes I feel I can offer insights to those experiencing the same issues and hopefully help them come out with a satisfactory resolution as I did. Congrats tho, you win. I'll stop trying to help and enjoy my new transmission in peace.

People like yourself ruin forums like this. Instead of trying to help people you sit behind your keyboard making stuff up without a clue as to what you're talking about but with the sole intent of causing others harm.

Bottoms up buddy, time for a refill I bet.

    I'm out, good luck folks.

Grasping at straws here my friend or should I say frustrated to the point where " WE " as the owners of these trucks need to force Toyota to release a tsb .
Dealing with this issue for 4 years as a member of this site and admin at many others
Subbed to all the low fluid posts on Tacoma World . Subbed to all transmission related posts at Tacoma World
Got my fingers crossed we see a TSB by June of this year .

At this point in time , I am going to agree with what Smitty is preaching .
We saw the problems associated with low fluid in the 2nd gen transmissions but there were far less complaints for low fluid in the 2nd gen in comparison to the 3rd gen .
Thousands of torque converters failed in the 2nd gen transmission . Why ? its by far the hottest point within the transmission and was trying to operate properly with low transmission fluid . Inadequate cooling and loss of oil pressure .
For the lucky members and guests who read about low fluid issues with the 3rd gen transmission , this is your chance to get the transmission filled correctly before damage is done .Hopefully a tsb is released soon
Toyota will not be calling you on the phone to say " Hey , we didnt fill your transmission properly "
For the owners of new Tacoma trucks that dont get to read these posts , get ready for a storm of transmission failures .

Ultimately to vehicle manufacturers it is about one thing: money. They have lawyers and actuaries that calculate what these actions will cost. Remember the frame-rot issue with Tacos? Then there was the leaf spring recall. Seems that they could corrode, snap off, and move enough to puncture the fuel tank or sever the rear brake line.

Another recent example is the Takata airbag issue (not Toyota's fault). Takata was aware of dangerous defects with its airbags years before the company filed paperwork with federal regulators.

Bottom line in it all is saving dollars. If enough owners complain and annotate issues (especially safety) then manufacturers study those problems and put it through the cost/benefit matrix......
