Only thing I used from the harborfreight tool was the riveter. I didnt use any of the inserts that came with it.
I put the foam sticky tape on the face side of the tailgate so that there wouldn't be any metal on metal contact. The top side of the tailgate has two bolts that keep it off the surface.
The tail gate cap edge is a bit sharp so I'm trying to find some kind of weatherstripping to slide over it to make it less of a pain to open/close the tailgate.
I got this for loading motorcycles too. My bike rear wheel sits right at the edge of the tailgate

hmm i dont have any such bolts, what year is yours?

I see this guy (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-2005-2015-tacoma.401431/page-3#post-11367906) put weather foam strip all around. Joe did provide some foam strip in the pack but its like 4 ft. So, i plan to get some from Home Depot today (it was raining yesterday and today so i only got to put in the inserts. For sure, that hbf tool makes installation a breeze.

Any concern with rust overtime? I see some paint chips on the surface after unpacking.

Got it installed. (I also installed pieces of foam under the cap to give it some cushion if someone (or me) decides to stand on it (so it doesnt bend in the middle) . Looks and feels very sturdy. The price is definitely a steal with the "Free Cap" promotion.

I rolled up my 600cc track bike and doesnt feel like am rolling & walking over a tailgate.

I chose to purchase 1" bolts instead of the supplied 3/4" because when you install the cap + plate + a layer of the foam strip, there are not much threads left in the 3/4".
@Mobtown Offroad - I would suggest you supply 1" instead of 3/4" and include some additional length of foam rubber. Just my 2 cents

I'm definitely interested in purchasing the skin and cap but the Fedex shipping calculated on the website is killing it for me. Are you able to ship another method that might be cheaper? My snowmachine is tearing up the factory plastic tailgate every time it goes over it and this would be a great way to stop that.

Sorry man. Unfortunately, FedEx is the cheapest we've found. Actually, they are cheaper than everyone else by about 30%. I try to only charge what FedEx charges me. The skins and caps are surprisingly heavy for their size. I wish I could charge much less for shipping.

After checking, I can see why the rate is high, didn't know you were in Alaska.

Like my partner said, we do not mark up our rates in any way and FedEx is by far the cheapest. The only suggestion we have is get a few more people in your area to buy and then split the shipping. The shipping only increases slightly when packaging them together.

My bad, thought I had put Alaska in the first post. Living up here is awesome but really puts a damper on getting parts.

Do you find the tailgate harder to close because of the extra thickness from the foam strips?

    Try living in Hawaii. :D
I take that back, you might have it worse up there since Group buys might be harder to come by in Alaska.

You'll have to invite us up to stay for a bit and we'll bring some parts to you. I'd love to come visit Alaska.

I've put my 650 Honda (BRP) up in the bed a couple times doesn't even budge. I did leave the plastic cover on with the smooth plate and the cap .
