Checked local auto parts stores & walmart, can you only get ATF-WS
    from the dealer?

    Toyota ATF-WS, yes.
There are others that meet the requirement but they don't call them WS. None are actually approved by Toyota. I don't know about cross compatibility....

At dealership now...same issuesas everyone. Had to resort to "if it proves to be correct level I will pay for the check...." otherwisetheywouldn't do the level check. Can they fill it before bringing me back there to see them pop the check bolt? I marked the check bolt but did not mark fill tube bolt. Worried now that they will pre fill before I get to watch them pull the check bolt...

this is BS that you have to offer to pay to get something that should be under warranty checked. because this is obviously an issue going around and wasnt just like 1-2 truck fluke

Yep...I just want peace of mind...told them I plan on keeping truck a long time. Tech who came for test drive said shuddering is normal, the seeking gears in cruise control is supposed to be like that and I shouldn'tbelieveeverythingIread on the internet!

good for you dude, that's worth the price of paying for it if it
came to that. I could not convince them to go further than the
Tech-Stream hook up for me, they said if that says ok, it's ok so
I've got to do my own.

I am at my second dealer now...th one where I bought the truck.
First try at closer dealer gave me the old "could not replicate" and said fluid level was fine...I suspect he just did computer check...

Well if the level is low I do not pay...that's why I am worried they will pre over fill it before I get to watch them pull the check plug...they are really leary about letting me watch anything. My truck is now parked outside "cool g down" but it has been for at least an hour now...it's about 5 degrees Celsius outside...like 40F...
Don't want to wait all day but will if need be...

id demand that you get to watch the entire thing because you are willing to pay and you want to see they are doing all the steps needed for the proper check

Instead of saying I read it on the internet, I would say "I have a couple of friends who had this issue and when they checked their tranny fluid, it was low." They're a lot less likely to call BS on that than they are the interwebz.

After reading all of the transmission threads here you guys made me paranoid. :spy: I took my truck into Voss Toyota (Beavercreek, OH) and told them to check my transmission fluid and all my other fluids. They were fantastic to deal with and didn't hassle me at all about wanting to check the transmission fluid on a truck with 3,600 miles. Turns out I was "over a quart low" according to my service advisor! He said his service manager had his monthly conference call with Toyota on Monday and was informed about the 2016 Tacos and low transmission fluid. So it appears Toyota is now getting the hint! If you have the tow package I would definitely get it checked. Also my rear differential was .5 quarts low...

    Two questions:

    1. How much damage was done to my transmission by being "over a quart low" for 3,600 miles? I have only done city and highway driving...no towing or off-roading.

    2. I'm pissed that Toyota can't figure out how to put the correct amount of transmission fluid in their vehicles. I am definitely going to call corporate and see if I can get an extended warranty on my transmission since they screwed up. I realize I'm probably screwed, but it doesn't hurt to try. Has anyone had any luck trying to get something out of Toyota?

Hey,The Dude 80,could you let me know who you were dealing with at Voss? I have an appointment monday at Walker and I am not really confident that they will do the check properly. This will be my 3rd dealer I have been too,2 previous ones flat out lied about doing check.I know I could check it myself ,but I am fairly sure it is low and I want it documented.

Ask for Steve. He knows all about the low fluid levels on the Tacoma. I was there yesterday.

No problem! This site has saved me thousands over the past few months, so I try to help out when I can. Make sure they check your rear differential. Good luck!
