Trying to buy 2010 Taco, is the dealer too high?

Hello, I am new here and new to the Tacomas, but am determined to get one very soon. I went to a dealer today and here is what I asked for and what they said their "bottom dollar" was after 5 hours of dealing. I think it is way too high.

My Request:
2010 Tacoma Access Cab, 2.7L Four Cylinder, 4x4, Manual transmission
SR5 Package
Tube steps
Heated Leather Seats
16" Five spoke Alloy Wheels
BFG A/T Tires

They say they are only $200 over cost at $29,261, so I walked out. I estimated invoice prices for all of these options at roughly $25,000. Was I wrong? i don't think so since this "bottom dollar" was also their first offer. Sigh.

That truck has a lot of dealer extras, might be better getting the truck with just SR5, you would save a few k.

 

I don't know if it means much, but after dealing multiple dealers against each other for a couple of weeks, the best i'm getting is around msrp price out the door. Like other have directed, use edmunds.com to calculate what others around you are paying.

I think why part of the reason that prices are somewhat high is because there are no incentives available on tacomas as of now.

Heated leather seats? Never heard of such a thing on a Tacoma. Then again, it's not that common for people in Pac NW to have heated seats though it's been unusually cold this week...brrrrr. You might be best to purchase your own tires/wheels versus what the dlr is offering. BF Goodrich AT tires? I assume dlr is having these installed. Are you ordering this truck? My suggestion is to find a truck in stock and go from there. They are much more likely to deal on a vehicle in stock. I know the 4cyl access cabs aren't as common. Edmunds.com is accurate with regards to invoice price/etc.

Yea, gotta be Canadian. I paid less than that OTD for my 09 AC Sport 4x4.

 

The 4 banger access cab was a large clue; those are rare in the US.

I just got my reg cab 4x4 for under invoice. Just shop around. If an in-person sales guy says no deals, look to see if your dealer has a web salesman, look up the invoice on the web (or http://www.carsdirect.com), and make an offer...with a cut & paste.

I was prepared to order a truck since I had found few 2.7L Access cabs, but then I found this dealer who had a 2.7L 4x4 SR5 in stock and in the color that I wanted. They want (roughly) $23,520 just for the base truck, $2000 for leather upholstering+heater, $1230 for wheels & sensors, and $1000 for the tires, and $450 for tube steps. $29,261 out the door.

Oh crud... Edmunds is giving me a TMV price for this truck as it sits at $24,153. Man, maybe I screwed up in not buying the truck... I might just go get it and piece those accessories together myself.

i have the same truck, i got it for 22k out the door. Minus the leather...i also have the trd wheels which were only a 400 dollar option. You can buy the leather seats off ebay for 500 dollars, and step bars for 200 bucks. Don't have the dealer do any of your additional options.

 

If you are still looking....The net is a great way to shop for vehicles without leaving the comfort of home. However you must be willing to travel to pick up your new ride. Send out requests for quotes to dealers that are in the range you are willing to travel. This will easily double the stock that is available to you. And, yes, your local dealer will say that they will look for you, but remember, they arent doing this for free.

 

Yea I sent out requests to all the dealers within several counties of my location. My local dealer is the one that actually ended up finding my truck though and brought it in from another dealer.

 

Buy the bass truck and add what you want - they are asking too much. Or buy TRD 6 cyl for around 28k then add leather later.

 

more common than you think, maybe not in your area, but near me, i see them every day, including the one i drive. they also had a sr5 on the lot, but won't budge much on the price for me

 

Another option is buying it through costco. I purchased my Tacoma through costco, picked it up at the local dealer, and saved $5000 over going to the dealer and buying it.

 

Sweet! After discovering that the Edmunds TMV price was higher than the dealers final offer, I went back and purchased the truck as it sits. (I did splurge and have them install the heated Katzkins, but its ok since I didn't want to personally rip the interior out of a truck with only 8 miles on it. )
