Im not sure what toyota is thinking, do they not read truck trend, or any forums. we ve known for at least 2 yrs gm was putting a diesel in their small trucks, toyota's challege is the 3.5?, these trucks need at least 300 hp, or use the 4,0 from the fourrunner, ive pulled the same trailor in my 2012 4,0 auto or sport and then in my girlfriends fourrunner, the fourrunner has no problem, even left in overdrive, my truck has to be in 4th gear to keep 60/65. i know long term reliability is important, but so is driver satisfaction. its almost time for me to hit the dealer lots, and im not sure toyota will get my money this time.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Sounds like operator error to me, mine does quite well off the line even with a lift and 33"s.

I think him saying "yes, 2nd gen" was answering a question (somewhat rhetorically) why posted in the 2nd gen section.

His OP states 3.5l motor and he talks about the current competition (GM twins and diesel power), how well his 2012 Taco and his girls T4R pull and not going with Toyota for a new truck. but, I could be wrong.

It sounds to me like he feels the 3.5L is too small to be powerful and the 4L in his current 2012 is too weak already compared to a 4Runner.

OP if you're towing more than 6500lb then you bought the wrong truck to begin with.

    Workin' on it....
I bought my Tacoma as a "fun" truck that is smaller and more maneuverable than any of the larger trucks. In the past I owned a 1998 Chevy 5.7L 1/2 ton and my wife currently has a 2006 Dodge 5.9L Cummins for horse trailer pulling duties (5000-6000lbs). If I wanted a hauling truck I would have gone with a Chevy or Dodge diesel (haven't done any research on the Nissan Titan diesel).
