Setting up bumpstop suggestions.

Hmmmm I mean, sounds like the other guy have 4 1/2" of lift, so that correlates to a larger leaf pack, so a larger shock can be stuffed in there, but he might be bumping low as well. I'd have to see a pic of your actual setup while flexing

 

Ok so yeah with that much lift with the aftermarket shackles you can probably get away with a 12" shock, but with the stock shackles at that much lift you have to much shock

 

Well, I had the bamf towers, with 12" kings and All Pro Expo Leafs and was getting about 4 1/2-5" of lift and at full bump I still had a good 1" of shock left.

 

Goddammit. I hated the way those shackles made it sit. Can't go back to the ome shocks cuz the one was bad. Well I'll see what I can come up with. Gonna try to make it work. Thanks for your help.

Shock tower getting ordered tomorrow. Now I just need to find a good welder. I can weld but only in the flat position. I suck at everything else.

 

Wrong. You will need to adjust your bumps so your springs dont go into super bad negative arch when you stuff the rear with the shackle flip

 

Oh shit youre right. Didnt think about that. With 3" lift you should still be fine with a shock relocation as long as they cycle the pack and place the lower mounts properly on the axle

 

New problem. Getting ready to order the shock relocate and realized my 12" fox shocks have a stem top. The relicate has an eyelet mount

 

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hmmmmm. That is a problem. So heres a fix, you don't weld the tabs inside, drill a hole through the top and mount it like OEM. I did that with my TRD shocks and it worked just fine but with the tabs inside already you have to cut down some washers

 

That's what I was thinking but when I asked bamf they said I couldn't do it.

 

I mean, it would be a custom fab on your part. I wanna say the already welded towers come without the tabs welded in, but I could be wrong

 

I emailed the place I got the shocks from to see if they could swap the top out for the eyelet on. They rebuild them so I figured why not. We'll see. I'm gonna order the already welded ones. When you did yours did you install them or did you have a professional do the install?

 

Your shocks are too long for your application. Period. If you want to run 12in stroked shocks, you NEED to relocate them via BAMF brackets or something of the sort. Otherwise you will have to jack your truck up real tall to get any sort of up travel.

Longest shock you can really run in a stock location is 10 inches, and that is going to be with a thicker leaf pack (dakars, all pro etc)

BTW, wheelers superbumps compress A LOT. WAY more than 1/4 in. I would say factor in that they compress down to 25% of their original size easily.

Ok yep, we established his shocks are too long for his setup, hence the BAMF tower hehe

I said the Superbumper compress 1/4" MORE than the OEM bumps do at full bump.
And yeah, even the 10" shock isnt going to be able to fully utilize an All Pro pack or equivalent. I was pullinh about 11-11.5" of travel with 12" shocks and the bamf relocate with the All Pro expo pack.

 

Stock bumps hardly compress at all they are ROCK freaking hard compared to the super bumps.

@M192 Do yourself a favor when you do get the brackets, just pull the bed off. Its 6 bolts and will make your life SOOOO MUCH EASIER when putting on the relocation brackets.

 

That's what I was thinking. But for me that's a lot of work. I have about 200# of crap in my bed. Plus the cap. Plus a few wires I ran not planning I'd need to disconnect them. But. I can see how it'll be much easier so we'll see.

 

While its not needed, I've watched Jerry install them without pulling the bed, I agree, it would make installation a heck of a lot easier. At the very least pull out the bed bolts and just prop the bed up a few more inches.
