Anyone consider a Jeep Wrangler?

How many of you considered a Jeep Wrangler and why did you ultimately choose the Tacoma?

 

I want one but I'm not a mechanic and I defiantly don't have the funds for a personal mechanic. I chose the Tacoma because it's a 4x4 with locker in the rear and it's reliable.

Edit: it is also nice having the truck factor. i can toss crap in the bed, can toss my dog back there and not worry about him being muddy, can toss dirt bikes and my bicycles back there. I can tow a decent amount too.

Yes, briefly, but...decided on the Tacoma quickly after considering reliability, ease of maintenance, overland ability, cost, etc.

 

That's easy.
I have a wrangler and a Tacoma. Jeeps been great. Two set of tires, one set of brakes, af sensor, left front u joint, sway bar links. Not bad for 10 years old.

 

Wanted a truck.

 

Considered it? Yes. Didn't get one because it's not a truck.

 

I need my bed, so it was an easy choice. Wife saw Jeep is releasing a pick up and she wants it bad so looks like we might have one in the driveway next year...

 

Ha, the wife had two of them, a '10 and a '13. The 10 was garbage and I hated driving it but the 13 was pretty nice. It was part of the package to get married she had to transition to a Toyota It's funny, we're still getting recall notices for her Jeep we got rid of 2 years ago, Chrysler junk.

 

I have a friend that is and always was a Jeep nut, he said to avoid the 2010's like herpes.

 

What happened to the '10s?

 

Having owned both I needed the ability to haul more than a backpack if I need to so I needed a truck. That being said I miss my Jeep every day and will hopefully have one as a toy in the future but I think a Taco will always be my daily driver.

 

I was close to signing the papers to trade the Tacoma on a Rubicon but I really needed a bed for hunting season. So I traded it for a Ram with a bigger bed.

 

He mentioned that was the first year of the new HO motor, and it was a POS.

 

Had an 07 for about 2 years. Built it up with 35s, armor, winch, lockers, etc... It was fun but not a truck. Oh and no matter what you do soft tops leak.

 

Price, a JK Rubicon around here was high $40K or more. And I like having a truck, wife has a 4Runner, so having a bed was a need for me.

 

I wanted a JKU badly before I purchased this DCSB TRD OR 2016. I work with a guy that owns a new model (2014 or 2015) I think, we go out for lunch alot taking turns driving.
After riding passagner in his JKU I quickly decided I would never own one as a daily driver. My God that vehicle fights the wind, like pushing a brick through a wind tunnel.

He has a sport model and the interior doesnt compare to the new Tacomas in my opinion. You'd have to spend the money and get a really nice one to compete.

Also there wasn't as much space as I thought there should be, maybe its just a appearance thing but I think a 4Runner would hold alot more.

To me a 4 door Tacoma with a hardtop bed cover was far and away a better choice, great daily driver, great off roader.

 

Had an 04 Rubicon breifly, thing shook all over the interstate when going 65+ - to the point I even went to the dealership and made sure the tires were balanced etc. I swore at that time I would never own another one unless it was strictly a toy for off-roading.

 

A few people told me when I was young that they could see me driving a Wrangler when I started driving.

Instead, I went for Outback wagons for a while. When it came time to replace the last one, I wanted space more than anything else, preferably a pickup bed. A Wrangler would have about the same space as the Outback depending on the model, maybe less. The Tacoma has similar interior seating room plus a six foot bed.

 

I did, my XJ was recently totaled by some asshat. I was looking at new JK's and there was something I didn't like about the overly plastic pieces and overly cheap feeling interior. Don't get me wrong the XJ was the epitome of cheap plastics, but it's a simple vehicle so I gave it a pass. Its saving grace was nothing that made it stop or move was a Chrysler designed component. However the Tacoma won out because I needed something abit more utilitarian but I still wanted to go 4wheeling. It's a win win.

 

I went from an 07 unlimited wrangler to my Tacoma, zero regrets. Toyota simply makes a better vehicle.

Wranglers certainly have a better off road process, better approach angles and such, and much better aftermarket options, but I needed a better daily driver.
