got word from the service writer - 1/2 qt low. They also called the regional manager to let them know that the truck was low on fluid, could be all BS. but at least he acknowledge that I was right and that they have documented the incident for warranty purposes. The truck does have the extended warranty and will still call Toyota Care just do cover all bases.

I am not sure if it the truck was made in TX or Mexico..didn't even know that Toyotas were being made south of the border.

Called mine to make an appointment and they want me to do a ride around with the tech tomorrow. I have the shifting issue when the truck sits for a while doesn't even matter about the temp I live in Hawaii. R-D seems to rev high then bam go after delay.

Mine still does the R-D thing. Called Toyota corporate and opened a case. They told me that the dealership that sold me the truck should have inspected it and made sure the fluid levels were correct. Waiting to hear from the dealership's service manager.

They aren't given enough time to check fluids when prepping vehicle...I am at dealer now waiting to watch them show me mine is correct. If it is I have to pay for the procedure!

Sigh. I understand the time crunch with regard to the inspection but that is no excuse. I told the corporate rep that I talked to that Toyota itself is to blame for allowing trucks to leave the factory with incorrect fluid levels.

I am going to pursue an extended warranty on the transmission at very least. I am concerned about what wear and tear and/or damage could have been done driving 1200 miles with one quart of fluid missing.

Had my fluid topped off by the dealership that said it was a quart low. Still getting the metallic clunk and still having erratic shifting and delays from reverse to drive. Just opened another case.

Here you go, 1.5 qt. low...issues resolved. Truck drives completely different and is noticeably more responsive.

My buddy who's the service mgr. contacted his district service mgr. and let him know as well as emailing him the screenshots of the initial fluid level. He's assuming there will be a TSB issued at some point.

Just documented my fiasco in another thread. Had to offer to pay for the fluid check if it was fine...after waiting 5 hours at dealer I got to witness the plug pull...not a drop came out! Have called toyota canada...they are getting back to me...
Took mech for a test drive and he said the clunking and shudder when slowing down was "normal" and he declined when I asked him to drive the truck. Also told me not to "believe everything I read on the internet..."
Then I had to pay 67 bucks for a tire rotation that I never requested...

Had mine checked by the master tech and they reported it was fine but I wont be happy till I do it myself. A few questions though.
The thermostat does need to be pinned down right? Do this before going through the temp check process?
Does the truck need to be running after is hits it's proper temp? How long do I have from 93* to 113*? Should the drain and fill plugs both be out when I start the process (assuming nothing comes out in the first place) so I can start filling right away, or just make them finger tight so I can take them out quickly?

Why is the Techstream considered not accurate?

    Thanks!

Please forgive my ignorance. I have a laser infrared thermostat that is accurate to +/- 1/10 degree. Rather than doing the OBD jump. Can I just aim the laser infrared at the bottom of the transmission pan until I get a temp between 93 and 113 degrees. I wouldn't think there would be too much difference in the ambient temperature of the pan and the fluid temperature. Am I way off base on this?

I'm at my dealership now they did the u joints and they took a few pumps each and I have been waiting for the truck to cool so they can check the trains fluid. By the way the ordered me new rear passenger window moldings.

Thanks for the quick reply! In regards to the Techstream I misread a post by Gearcruncher in another thread. Thank you for the help!

Same procedure; you still have to to all the jumper-BS.

Ugh I must be making this harder than it is. I have now officially read all the posts and the AC60F ATF adjustment document. I will be using the OBD jumper method. But will see what the temp is on the infrared at the appropriate time. I get the point that it could take longer for the temp to transfer to the pan and the pan would heat up slower.

Clunking and shudders are normal ? Yup , he obviously works for Toyota lol .
I trust you guys as members of Tacoma World with your 67 votes for low fluid as of march 19/2016 over a technician that says clunking and shudders are normal on a brand new truck .
If I lived near you , I would be more than happy to drop by the dealership where he works and poor a quart of WS transmission fluid down that technicians throat and watch him clunk and shudder .
