It would be nice to know how the OP,s truck is doing ?
When he finally found a dealership that would work with him , they said the fluid was " fine " yet he was experiencing severe symptoms of a transmission that was extremely low on fluid . His truck would fall completely out of gear to the point where it could have easily caused an accident .

A little late maybe but I purchased my Tacoma from Earnhardt and my limited experience with their service department has been very good. The only service needed so far was the problem with the hood vibrating. This was back in early November and my truck was the first one they had seen with the problem. Got all the service managers out to look at it and take pictures, gave me a loaner and had it fixed the next day, no problems since.

Please explain your statement. Temp range is 94-114*. Not full operating temp. I havent looked in my owners man but the required procedure would never be printed in an OM. Too complex for an owner to comprehend.

The recommended procedure for checking the fluid level is for the ATF to be below 35°C (95°F) to start, but it must be below 45°C (113°F). If it is higher than that, you must wait for it to cool down before starting the procedure. The procedure then involves making sure that the ATF circulates to all of the components of the transmission by alternating between N and D for a period of time, letting the engine idle until the temperature reaches between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F), then you alternate between N and D again to circulate the fluid.

Once on the lift, the vehicle must be level, you need to make sure that the tilt angle from the front to rear of the vehicle is within +/-1°.

This is just the kind of info they do not put in an OM.

You also need to jump 2 of the pins on the DLC2 connector to make sure the engine idle does not fluctuate while performing the procedure. It really isn't "normal-"owner friendly.

I wonder how the OP,s truck is doing ? Hasn't been around here since March 13th
When he finally found a dealership that would work with him , they said the fluid was " fine " yet he was experiencing severe symptoms of a transmission that was extremely low on fluid . His truck would fall completely out of gear to the point where it could have easily caused an accident .
I assume it must be fixed because he hasnt posted back since his visit to the 2nd dealership ??????

All Toyotas are the same for this check that I have seen. I have owned many Toyotas, and currently my 16 year old Camry runs like a champ. There is a reason why it has lasted this long, proper care. Please make sure you read what Toyota recommends and not what you think.
    • Park the vehicle on a level surface.
    • With the engine idling and the parking brake applied, shift the selector into all positions from "P" to "L", and then shift into "P" position.
    • Pull out the dipstick and wipe off the fluid with a clean rag. Re-insert the dipstick and check that the fluid level is in the HOT range.
    • Do this check with the fluid at normal driving temperature (70 - 80°C, 158 - 176°F) .

Like I said, normal operating temperature.

    http://www.highcountrytoyota.com/faq/check-transmission-fluid

Keep Your Car Healthy By Checking The Transmission Fluid Regularly To Ensure Smooth Gear Shifts, A Cool Transmission, And Properly Lubricated Parts.
Checking the transmission fluid in your car is a relatively simple procedure and should be done about once per month. To get the most accurate reading you should check the transmission with the engine running and properly warmed up, on a level service. Follow these easy steps to check your transmission fluid:

    • First, remove the dipstick from under the hood (if you are unsure as to where it is located, check your owner's manual).
    • The handle is usually a bright color (generally yellow or red).
    • Remove the stick, wipe it clean, replace, and then remove it again.
    • There are labels for "Warm" and "Cold"- check the warm readings.
    • If your transmission fluid is not full, slowly fill the fluid up a little at a time, and continue to measure with the dipstick.
    • To fill the fluid you should use a funnel and pour it into the hole where you pulled the dipstick. After filling, replace the dipstick, and after a few moments remove to confirm that it has been done correctly.
When checking your transmission fluid be sure to check it's color. Transmission fluid is a pinkish/red color usually, though it can be other colors like green. If your fluid is brown or dark, or if there is sand, dirt, or debris in the fluid, that is a sign that there may be something wrong with the car. If this is the case, schedule a service appointment at High Country Toyota in Scottsboro, AL, where our experienced technicians are more than happy to help!

@nizmoz, the 2016 Tacoma does not have a transmission fluid dipstick, so its not like all other Toyotas you have owned.

None of this applies to the transmission in the 2016 Tacoma.
