Congrats! I always find myself looking at the F150s when I peruse my dealer's lot.
    He is a Ford/Toyota dealer.
I saw a $39,800 TRD OR LB decked out the lot this week.
Also love the 1988 Toy pickup OP. Enjoy your new rig.

You guys worried about speed and acceleration need to look for a used Corvette......You won;t worry about the truck's lack of performance. That's what I did. I tired of the Vette (or not being able to actually use all that power except at the track) Sold it and bought a 12 MX 5. That is a vehicle that allows for street legal enjoyment and good enough acceleration.

I don't feel my truck lacks speed or power. Seems to me it is quite adequate.

That's what I am talking about...... A Bike or Sports car puts the Tacoma in it's proper place. A slow slug of a truck that feels good driving it in no particular hurry.

What I meant was, even if he got 2 MPG, with a commute that short, who cares?

If only ford still offered manuals. Until they bring that back as an option, they are hot worthless garbage.

Go back and watch that same video again starting at 4:47 to 4:57, you will see the race was not a race, it`s not even a quarter of a mile, there is no stock Tacoma`s that run a 10 sec quarter. The Automatic 3rd gen was pulling hard against that stick shift and was about to smoke it at their 1/8 mile finish line, actually it does not even look like it was 1/8 mile, anyone that has spent any time on the track can see this, the video is quite laughable.

Sorry to burst bubbles for some that were getting enjoyment from that cooked up video.

nice truck for in town use OP, or dirt roads here and there. i had a 2014 f150 4x4 reg cab with the 5.0 and that engine was great, got same mpg as my tacoma reg cab on the hwy with tons of power to enjoy. the only place it was not better was off the gravel roads and beyond. even with a 2.5inch fox lift and 33's it just didn't leave me feeling great about being off road. enjoy the ford until toyota gets off the toilet and does something productive for a change!

Nice truck OP, I think you'll be way happier in the long run staying NA. Some people I know have had some expensive maintenance come due on the turbo setups and just got rid of them for that reason. A turbo w/ regular towing never made much sense to me anyways. Enjoy.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Turbo is advantageous when towing at elevation. A large percentage of engine power is lost at elevation in a NA rig.

Also, turbo engines are and have been used extensively in commercial applications. For example, most semi trucks use a turbo diesel setup. And in the consumer space Audi plans to use turbos on their entire lineup by 2020.
I agree you have more complexity and more moving parts to wear out and that's got to result in higher lifetime ownership costs.

I put the SC on my 2nd gen Taco and wow! Did it ever liven things up. The engine just didn't work as hard anymore.

And now on my 3.5l f150 it's got dual turbos and rarely ever gets past 2k rpm. It's like having a much larger engine capability available on demand whenever needed. Amazing feeling and truely the way to get V8 power in a little V6.

Wish Toyota would put something like the Ford 2.7 turbo in the Tacoma. Toyota really bunted on the 3rd gen.

    Good move on the F150.

Thanks for all the info...I'm a diehard Toyota and Honda fan but every once in a while I look at the "Fat Chicks" in the corner.....that would be the GMC and Chevy full size trucks. I think to myself it would be nice to "Ride" them.......then I wake up and get in my Tacoma and remember all the good times I've had the past 15 years.

Commercial trucks are a different story, they are designed to be torn down and rebuilt quickly. Example sleeved cylinders. Also diesels have a disadvantage in the horsepower department and why they are needed. Forced induction of any kind has its advantages. Typical consumer does not need it. Supercharger/ turbo sure can be fun though. In the long run, just saying all its more affordable to maintain an NA motor is all.

Congrats on the new truck OP. I was considering an F-150 last year, but found that the aluminum body drove the prices up quite a bit compared to the previous gen. Also, a mid-size truck suits all my needs. I think the F-150 is a great looking truck and while being a Chevy guy when it comes to American vehicles; I was pretty certain my next American truck was going to be a Ford.

That is a handsome truck. Love the color. I am a former Ford-hater myself. I got a new F-150 company truck last year and it eventually won me over. The midsize trucks are a weird compromise and the pricing overlaps full-size trucks that have more power plus better MPG. The Tacoma is now a bedazzled stretch limo coasting on the reputation of the 2004-and-older models. I'd take a 2016 F-150 over a 2016 Tacoma, but I still like my 1st gen the most.

From my experience American trucks suck. You will get a few good years out of them and I hen you better be prepared to spend money to keep them rolling. Had 2 ford 150. Dodge Dakota. Chevy s10. I will never consider any other truck outside of Toyota. That is my story and I am sticking to it
