    It's exciting cutting aluminum on the tablesaw, and messy.

    If this was a production run, the part would be water jet cut and bent elsewhere, and I wouldn't even get dirty. No fun there.

    I like the relief cut idea. Will have to play with it.

    Looks good. You do know those perpendicular pieces that you left off give the skid a lot of its bending resistance right? While it may be easier to clean it won't be as strong.

    I am aware of what you mention. If I was a full time, high-speed rock basher, I would design differently. As it is, I hit rocks now and then. If this skid breaks, or bends unacceptably, or otherwise fails to please me, I'll take it back to the bench and modify it.

    Factory skid was version 1. RAT skid was version 2. This thread covers version 3. Version 4 could only be better.
