Yeah, the grips are cheap, and the trigger assembly with the brake levers built in are only like $30. I was hoping to keep the cables, that would suck to have to replace them also. At that point, you're right, might not be worth the extra cost.

Hey mike! Trigger shifters are pretty easy to switch in! You shouldn't need to switch the cables, but those cost $5 if you absolutely have to. My bike has sram shifters sand they're pretty awesome!

Thanks Cam, that's exactly what I was looking for, just wanted to make sure there weren't any snags in swapping them out. Amazon, here I come.

You wouldn't have to swap the cables? I'd have though you would, for the different length from the grips to the trigger shifters.

That certainly would make it easier; adjusting cables to the proper fit so the derailleurs operate correctly is a pain in the butt.

Well generally the cable sheath is long anyway to account for the rotation of the handlebars, and the cable itself is adjustable at the derailer. The only thing I can think that would change that is if the trigger shifter has some proprietary cable with a special end... Still, cables are super cheap and easy to mount up.

I'm almost positive the rear trigger shifter has to be the same brand as the derailleur. The front doesn't matter. I was going to do this like 10 years ago on a bike and ended up not being worth it in my case. Good luck.

That's what I figured, I guessed if I stay with Shimano parts, I was hoping it'd just be a swap.
Noel,mi can adjust the cable length at the derailer end, it's a pain, but I'm going through all the adjustment phases now anyways since it came disassembled.

I think you should do the shift rails, add a light bar, Tacoma satoshi grill, and.... Hard not to mod anything think it's a curse

Anyone hear from the long lost participants lately--evanmb31 (from CT), luvtacos (Chick with the Baja who never went trail riding with the New England crew), Magoo, Fred, etc.??? Like they dropped off the face of the earth after being pretty active here. I know people come and go but...

Here's my new (to me) mtb... :anonymous: hammerschmidt front internal gear sprocket, Fox float shocks, maxxis tubeless tires. My last couple bikes were hardtails, and the last one was a 29er... Weird going to full suspension (6" travel front and rear) and Tony little 26" tires... Lose so much power on the climbs, but the down hills are amazing.

The one I just bought is a 27.5+, not a full blown fat tire bike, but larger than normal tires. It feels weird, it sort of floats. My last bike was a full suspension bike but I think I'm going to really like the fatter tires.

Especially when the dents and dings are in places that are completely inaccessible from the back side! :itllbuffout:

I prefer the bigger tires. Not necessarily wider, but taller. I remember when they first came out with the 29" tires back in... 2003? Can't remember what year it was... Anyway! They made hill climbs a lot easier. The first time I rode one I was impressed with how well they go over roots, rocks and stumps. pretty impressive...

Hey guys. I figured I should reintroduce myself because I'm in it for the long run with my semi recent Tacoma purchase.

Name is Paul, I live in Norwood, Massachusetts. I work full time and go to graduate school full time.

I bought a Tacoma for many reasons. It's the only truck I could justify myself buying. I don't think I would ever buy American. I use it as a daily driver more than my 98' Lexus. I've already done more to the taco than I should have after owning it for only 3 months. I've done some off roading already but nothing serious. I'm hoping for road trips and beach cruises this summer, and to meet all the awesome and helpful people on this forum.

I will be at the April 3rd meet in Worcester. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Seriously, his forum is the shit. Here's my baby.

    Her name is Eleanor. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Anyone else grumpy about the weather predicted tonight?

I spent all last Sunday desalting the truck and the Mazda, only to have to be right back where I started. I had the STi out for a second shifting stuff around int he garage and I was so tempted to go for a spin.
