Why'd you buy your Sport 4x4 instead of OR ?

If you wanted the OR for atrac and rear locker for "serious" offroading, you might as well get a sr5 and throw in lockers.

My 2014 Tundra was customized by a couple hundred pounds of ice fallin 6 stories onto roof, hood, windshield, dashboard, electronics and fenders parked at work; see thumbnail. Transported to dealer that i bought two Tundras from. Wanted M/T, TOW, TECH pkg. Says he can't find one in country... after a week and threatening to go elsewhere, magicaly comes up with Barcelona Red A/T, SPORT WITH PKGS I want. Bring wife down and we like it; sign papers for full price then find out truck has 385 miles on it. Thought we bought new truck. Letter into Ceo at Corporate ofice asking him to make it right for long term customer (4th new truck). Betcha I end up with used Sport.... but I like it. See avitar.

I bought a 4x4 Access SPORT because I traded in a 2009 4x4 Access SPORT. Never did any serious off-roading but needed the 4x4 for winter driving. I always thought an after market 'anytime' locker would be more useful than the OR locker. But I agree the 2009 scoop looks better than the 2016 from the inside.

Bingo. I like white trucks, and when I see a Super White OR, all I can think is: "butt ugly" and what a shame.

I personally should have probably gone with an SR5 and saved the money I would have spent on a Sport or OR, and added the tow package, the wheels and tires I wanted and aftermarket leather seats. Still would have come out ahead of the game financially, AND would have still have a more than capable off-road truck for what I do "off-road". The OR and Sports are mostly marketing schemes and I've said it before, an SR5 is probably more than capable "off-road" for 95% of us here. Sure, I got suckered into the marketing as well, but in hindsight should have picked up an SR5. Guys doing gnarly off-road stuff will build to their own personal specs, add a better locker, lift, better suspension than what even comes on the OR. The Sports and OR's are for the fanboys that mostly just want to look cool. Yep, I'm also guilty and bought a Sport.

Coming from someone who drives a first gen lol...you probably never used the systems on a weekly or daily basis. ATRAC and the other systems are pretty good. Yes I understand nothing beats a true front locker but most don't or would use it enough to justify the cost or installation of that mod, so why not just settle for the next best thing.

I bought the sport because I needed 5 seats, and you can't get a 4 door OR in Canada

I like the options on the sport including the decorative scoop. I plan on changing the suspension myself and probably adding a front locker.

I don't need the Atrac or rear locker that can only be engaged in 4low.

OR was the only MT option in a double cab. I actually prefer the black fenders and the wheels. I just wish the hood didn't look as long as it does.

OR do come with the same premium and tech package, including the sunroof. I bought an OR not because of the extra off road features, which are nice when you need them, but I really liked the smooth ride of the OR compared to the sport. Now all I need it that skewp!!

Love the look of my truck but it wasn't until I got stuck in a few bad situations that I realized that I should have gotten an OR and just bought a hood for $400 and a painted bumper for $200 and have gotten a more equipped truck for what I need. I now have to spend about $3k for lockers to get what I could have gotten for an additional $600. Still love my truck but I feel like I should have done better research. Thought that all Tacoma 4x4 was the same at the time...

Looking at the brochure for the 2016 Tacoma I see that the "A-TRAC" system is only available in the TRD Offroad with the Manual Transmission. I was considering both the Sport and Off-Road. With this info I think I'm leaning to the Sport. I'm not likely to need any of the other features. Want maybe. Not need.

No one speaks of Resale Value... OR will be worth more not less in long run. I mean you don't lose that extra cost in the long run. Especially if your not 100% happy or trade up often. My 2 cents...

If the Sport and the OR are both 4x2, what is the difference? Purely cosmetic at that point?

I understand the sport suspension is slightly stiffer.

    Is that it?

Sport because, no manual trans in the ACLB OR. :(

Of course Sweers stated they still offered manual trans because offroad guys like it...yet don't offer it on the ACLB OR....kinda lame.

Crawl Control and MTS are different modes of ATRAC available only in the automatic. The sport is a waste of money. They both cost the same

    Interesting view point.

My whole life i thought that by asking a question, a person was looking for a factual answer... I had no idea that this was ACTUALLY whining. I stand corrected!

I read every page.... I was like a train wreck, i just couldn't stop looking. My comments got me a 4 day vacation from TW.... Guess my Irish sarcasm got the best of me. It's OK though, i went to confession and have been forgiven (whew!)
