I stopped off at the local Dealership yesterday while running some errands since they had 3 new Tacomas sitting out front, and I thought I'd take a look. Got into a discussion with the salesman about some of the reported issues with the 3rd gens, particularly the transmission hunting issue and the "Learning Curve".
He commented that "Well, there shouldn't be any issues, since this is the same transmission that Toyota has been using in Tacomas for several years"!
My first thought was .."Say WHAT??"
And here I thought the 6 speed was a new transmission...

I have always found car salesman less knowledgeable than auto enthusiast. Then again, I think sales is more about people than product for most.

He is not an expert on vehicles, he is an expert at the manipulation of people.

That was my first impression, too. Well, it's a small town dealership, so I'm not expecting super expert people...but basic knowledge WOULD be nice!

I have a lot of relatives that are car salesmen, don't like many of them, nuff said! Box them up with real estate agents and clean house! One of my most proud life accomplishments is making a real estate agent cry....lol.

The service manager at my dealership always asks me what my research suggests, he knows I'm well informed.

Can I get 20 points if I admit it was a real estate sales WOMAN!

We we're selling my in-laws estate and i didn't trust this woman at all, she btw graduated high school with my wife 10 years before, so they were friends. She took it upon herself to screw us every chance she got, or at least try. She gave us a punchlist 3 pages long of things that were not our responsibility. She eventually hired an excavator to come and dig up the entire property and then bill us to put in a new leach field, or so she thought. This was planned without telling us at the request of the buyer, she planned to deduct the cost from the sell price. I got wise to her plot, called local excavators till I found the right one, cancelled the appointment, called the real estate board and threatened her license, then waited for her call. This got so bad, the county was calling me threatening to make me put in a $12,000 sand mound, she had them pissed off too! She told me that she was educated in the "psychology of real estate" and that she never had anything like this happen to her before. I lashed out at her and told her to take her contract into the restroom with her and wiper her ass with it! i told her that she never met anyone like me and that she WAS NOT going to walk over me. I could go on and on with the things that she tried to get us to pay for. I eventually threw the perspective buyer out too, told them to leave their hand money on the table on their way the hell off the property. Of course I didn't keep their money, but we sold it to someone else a week later for more money. Our agent was the poster child for
    Cant

    Normal
    Thinking.

In the salesman's defense, the Tundra has had a 6 speed since '07. Toyota is known for using existing technology for a lot of year. Shit! the windshield washer pump is the same one for 30 years.

I won't hold it against him. I like catching them in errors then correcting them. You get to be a dick and they can't do a thing about it. Its awesome!

An honest sales person with a good product will make a handsome living.

I worked with one realtor on 5 transactions. Transparent and fair. He even showed up unannounced at one of my purchases and spent an afternoon helping paint a couple of rooms.

Its no different than finding any other trade person including Drs plumbers, roofers, etc.

YOU have to be smart enough to know the right questions to ask before you engage their services. And be willing to fire them if they aren't delivering.

I almost never start off with a friend if I dont want to risk damage to that relationship should something go wrong. But I have had friendships develop with individuals who have consistenly delivered excellent service.

I was just a bit put off when specifically said the 6 speed has been used in Tacomas for several years. I would assume, since I'm not sure, that the shift points and whatnot might have to be changed due to the difference in the trucks, the power of the V6 Vs. the V8 and more.
