Went wheeling yesterday and tried opening the hood. Won't open :( Won't pop, I can grab the lever at the hood and move it, also the lever inside works and I can hear the mechanism at the hood. I tried to get the clips off the damn grille but I can't maneuver my hand in there. I don't wanna take off my bumper and skids because that's gonna be a huge PITA but if I don't have any other ideas I'll try that next weekend.

I've read some threads where people pull the lever and go over a big bump or so. I'm about to try that but thought I'd ask here to see if anybody had an idea.

    Thanks for any input.

Mine doesn't pop up either, just makes the popping noise and then I pull it up with my fingers.

I've had this problem with the wife's Tacoma for years.

With the drivers door open and you standing on the ground, reach in and pull the hood release, at the same time use your left fists to pound on the corner of the hood. The hood pops open every time for me.

It happened after I installed ditch lights, I must have messed up and skewed it a bit when reattaching the hood hinges.

Now that I think about it more I had to bend the hood latch bracket thing back a bit to install the satoshi grill... That might have done it

Have you had a buddy pull up on the hood while you actuate the release?

Going over speed bumps fast didn't work.

Holding the inside latch and hit the corner didn't work

It doesn't make any noise at all. You can hear the mechanism moving but thats it. Can't really pry it either because there's not much room there. Only thing I can think of is go pressure wash it and see if it knocks it loose.

Even tried to break the fucking clips that hold the grill on so I could take that off it didn't work. Seems like the only time clips break is when you don't want them to, but when you want them to they don't......

Wait, did you try pulling the mechanism in the cab and then just try ripping up the hood? Mine dosnt make any noise at all and that's what I have to do.

I can't visualize the latch mechanism but, before you have to break anything, can you slip a flat tip in an actuate at the lock and not use the interior release?

Inside the cab, use some plyers and grab the cable were it attaches to the hood release lever. The cable might be stretched. Pull on it directly. Try this before getting out the power tools.

Yeah I was pulling the mechanism inside and then they were pulling the hood up

I haven't tried it's super tight in there but I can try that tomorrow it's getting dark and I'm already frustrated with it ha.

I'll go try that but I kinda did that last night but it's worth a shot

Ya man let us know how it goes...

Sometimes (for me) walking away makes all the difference.

No such luck, I'm gonna take it to a hand wash place tomorrow and see what I can do. If not I guess instead of celebrating my birthday I'll be taking off my armor and breaking those damn clips! I've got 2 as spares and I'll zip tie it back on if I have to.

    Stay tuned ha :smash:

Ive had my grille off several times and have never had an issue getting it off....i just use a screwdriver to get in there and manipulate the clips. Hasent ever taken more than a minute or two, even the first time ever taking it off.... Thats gunna be your best bet at this point to get to the latch mechanism.

Have you tried having someone push down on the hood in the latch area while pulling release lever?

That's what I'm probably gonna do, it's hard to manipulate my hand since I have skids and a aftermarket bumper. I'll probably take them off on Friday and get to it that way.

Yeah we tried lots of different things Saturday night.

Gonna go wash it today and maybe it was mud caked on. But like posted above I'll take everything off on Friday
