Drivers seat

Awkward is a perfect description; whether you use the step or not.
It's always felt like that to me on trucks with running board/tube steps, just more so with the predator-style.
I'm doing sliders eventually...

 

At my age I'd be exhausted by then. If I remembered it all. Buckle up and start is it for me.




J/K. But you do make it sound like a pain.

 

This is why I wish they had a height adjustable seat. I would like to lower mine from the position it is. Can't!

 

Did you test drive this thing before you brought it. One would think that a test drive would have reveal this problem

I got the Carista device to disable the seatbelt chime. Now I can move buckle the seatbelt from the preflight checklist to the departure one.

I am 6ft/225lbs and had to adjust how I enter the seat to avoid my thighs hitting the steering wheel. First, I replaced my factory steps which are too high with a version that has a much lower step. Second, I learned to rotate myself and put my butt in first.

When the reviews on the 2016 started to come out last year one person said he felt like he had to disconjoint his spine from his hips.

Tacoma's have always had a high floor. If you try to put your right foot in first, you'll never get your leg past the steering wheel. You need to point your right knee out to the right to get it around the steering wheel as you get in. Becomes second nature after a while.

 

I'm 57 and 5'8" with the OEM Chrome running boards and don't use them to get in the truck. Hop from road right into seat. Maybe more on the way out when I rub my calf on the running boards.

Do wish Toyota would have kept the oh shit handle on the driver's side, but I'm ok without it.

 

I removed the boards and brackets last weekend, cut the brackets and welded 3" channel iron extensions to them. I will reinstall this weekend and let you know if lowering them 3" helps or not. This was time consuming so I can understand why some fab shops quote high prices.

 

I'm 5'9" 150-160 so I'm probably about the same size as you. While it's more awkward to get in than other trucks I've had, it's not bad, I probably look a little odd folding myself to get in though lol. I do struggle to get in with my duty gear on so I can understand where "rounder" people might have problems...

I also wish the oh shit handle was still there.

 

I'm 5'11 @ 340lbs, no issues getting in or out. I slide my right leg under the steering wheel and step in. No running boards on mine at the moment, but I will have sliders in a few weeks.

I do want to lower the seat by an inch though, so I'm not constantly "ducking" to look under the rear view mirror.

 

OP, I really like my truck, but yes I wish the steering wheel had more "up" travel so I didn't hit my legs on the bottom of it when I get in. It is a little bit of a trick getting in and out.

Oh, I have banged my shin on the bottom corner of the dash too.... once.... it hurt!
