I do the same as others. When I get pulled over, keys come out of the ignition, dome light is turned on and hands are on steering wheel or one out the window. When they ask for ID I then explain where ever my firearm is for their knowledge and both of our safety.

For as where I carry, it's either in the "cubby" next to the steering wheel, on me or in the holster mount I posted earlier when it gets here.

As for the question of "why do I need such quick access?" Go watch videos and see how fast someone can come up and put a pistol in your mug to get you out of a vehicle. I do a lot of driving for my work and take responsibility every time to drive when my family and I go out. Whether it be 10's of thousands of airplane parts or my little girl, I'm not taking a risk to lose any of them while under my care.

I appreciate your perspective. I've read some negative stories of "encounters" where the firearm in the open was not received well, which is why I posed the question.

I definitely see the advantage of quick access, wasn't questioning that.

Texas, open carry is legal. I just keep my hands in clear and plain sight and along with being respectful, it usually goes off without a hitch or ticket *knock on wood*

That's the right way to go about getting pulled over. As a former LEO walking up to a dark car wit people that you don't know inside is never a routine thing. After quick reinforcement that the driver is a responsible and aware gun owner, relieves a lot of tension.

You'll never find all of it, NEVER it gets into places you never thought possible. Comes in handy when .22 is hard to find, you can start pulling trim panels then head to the range

i gotta tell ya, being a cop in Florida, yeah it's not a crime not to tell a cop if you have a gun or not. If I see it and think you are reaching for it I also don't have to say drop the gun.

You're in FL, shit routinely hits the fan. I'm surprised you guys don't shoot more people just in case.

You don't want to end up being some weirdos hand puppet for happy time

to be quite honest I'm surprised we don't have more officer involved shootings as well. We do get a lot of k9 apprehensions though:)

This is where I mounted mine. Easily accessible, out of sight, and can be reverted back to original if needed(OEM pocket snaps back in and hides the hole). Made my own kydex and bolted it to the support beam behind the plastic. The best spot for on 2nd gens IMO. Now I ave to find a solution for my 3rd gen:confused:

all of our dogs come from overseas. my current dog is from slovakia and we just bought another dog from slovakia. and, lol, no i have never had a suspect use German to get the dog off himself. The dog only listens to me and usually they are too busy screaming.

I like this, but my parking brake is there. It took my last girlfriend a couple months of riding in the passenger seat to realize I had a full size 1911 .45 under the steering wheel - and she's LEO...

Negative. The kydex is mounted via nut/bolt to the metal brace behind the dash(both on top and bottom). A little tricky to get it bolted in, but it's not going anywhere. Even with heavy off-roading, retention is solid.

Lefties have to be a little more creative. Wish I could do something like @mesojdm but I'll have to come up with other options.

I don't blame you one bit, k9cop. That's just one reason nobody ever sees my gun. I worked with law enforcement a lot, for seven years, and have nothing but respect for you guys, and what you do. If guys like me were all you ever dealt with, you'd probably be so bored you'd be looking around for another job! Good luck to you, and please be safe.
Edit: By the way, I'm enjoying ownership of my 4th GSD. His name is Bogart. He thought he just had to help type about half of this post!
