    I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure. Isn't it a different transmission?

I actually took the shifter out today and compared it to the short shifter kit from my FJ (same as the 2nd gen Taco). It's the same mechanically basically but the dimensions are larger on the new trans. Also, removing the two forward bolts for the shifter wasn't easy and I wonder how that will work with a spacer leaving even less room between the bolts and the body.

Actually you can, a friend and I did it once. However we had to push the car 50mph to start it.

LOL really?? I can't imagine even trying that. Well, that is a lot tougher than putting it in Reverse and rolling backwards out of the driveway, then popping the clutch like I used to do in my civic.

I didn't think it was the best idea but both cars were his so we did it. We tied a tire to the front of the pusher car.

I started a car rolling it backwards once, turned out to be a bad idea. It started the engine but twisted off one of the rear axels, so the engine was running but now I had much bigger problem.

Anybody install a TRD or other aftermarket shift knob? Really in love with the TRD one for the FJ but unfortunately it doesn't look like it'll work on the '16 because it doesn't have the clips to hold on the boot.

    Suggestions?

You're right clips don't work on '16. I used several rubber bands around shaft as a makeshift to hold the boot in place. Works great.

Installed the FJ knob in mine. Took off the chrome ring on the shift boot, zip tied the boot in place and slid a rubber washer on top...

The more I drive my auto, the more I'm soooo disappointed with it....I absolutely hate that pos automatic transmission.....constantly down-shifting on the slightest incline on the interstate and up-shifting in town just before I go to hit the gas, just to down shift again.....It's all over the place with nowhere to go....Worst transmission I've ever seen....Toyota fumbled the ball badly here.

I've had 2 Toyota trucks with autos before that were ok but this is ridiculous.

I've had 2 manual Tacomas that were awesome....Just spoiled I guess....

Thanks for the info. This is probably going to be the next purchase I make for my truck. Would you mind posting a pic of what the shifter looks like installed with everything put back together? Also, while in neutral, does the shift knob seem to be at the same position (height) as the stock shifter?

That looks perfect. Really clean. Where did you get the washer from?

Iam salivating at the thought of my new 2016 Trd-Off and On Road with a Manuel Trannu, I test drove both and the winner is MT by a landslide. Its faster also and pulls hard in 3rd.

I never drove the Automatic, I test drove the stick, and went with the stick. After hearing all the hoopla with the Auto, and well being a TRUCK, the stick has done me real well. I have the Sport AC 4x4, with the 6spd, and I am really happy with it. I feel like with all the talk about rattles and shakes, transmission issues, I got an entirely different truck. I haven't noticed any issues with wind noise, cab noise (it's a freakin truck dude), tranny issues (no auto here), vibrations, buzzing, etc. I'm hyper sensitive to stuff myself and I'd notice without a doubt. The only thing I've noticed is the engine sounds really metallic when running, I have a Ducati motorcycle, and when revving the engine on the truck, I liken it to more Ducati 2V sounds, than a smooth Honda sound. My girlfriend likes the sound, I'm just sensitive to it hoping all is well. That said, I spent the first 4 months of owning my Ducati making sure everything was fine with that engine too since I had been used to riding smooth 4V hondas.

I am really happy with my Tacoma. I've had a huge number of cars in the last 7 years, all newer. I just like new cars. This is one of my favorites for a few different reasons. I owned a 2012 Tacoma DC SR5 Auto, 2012 FJ Cruiser, 2006 BMW 325i, 2008 Civic 5spd, Subaru Outback, 2003 Nissan 350z, 2015 Toyota Corolla S Plus, and now the 2016 Tacoma, and I have to say this is my favorite. The Tacoma DC was my first truck, and it was great, but I traded it in on the FJ which just had the cool factor, black on black with huge 31's and a 3" lift, it was pretty cool. But the 12mpg thing annoyed me to no end. It barely carried anything, and being a new home owner, I just decided to downsize to the corolla if I couldn't carry anything anyway, might as well be efficient about it. That was dumb, lasted a year in that and upgraded to the Tacoma. Going to own this for a looooong time.

    Good luck!

I would definitely recommend getting one. The knob is slightly lower, I'm thinking maybe 0.5"-1" or so. It's only really noticeable because the boot sags down a bit more than with the stock shifter. Here's 3 pics of 3rd, N, and 4th.

Lasted for half the tank and then dropped a bit due to wind and hills. Highway trip with summer blend gas and stock tires at 33 psi cold. I bet I could have beat 24 for a while if I was using ethanol free gas.
