    Do I just need to put a 3" lift on it?
    Do I need to get something else like a level kit?

    275/70/17's will rub on stock, that's a plus 2 tire

    Pretty sure it's the biggest tire you can go without a lift on a 3rd gen.

    Don't know about the lift, but you most likely need a spacer (via wheel adapter) so the inside front tires don't rub on the wheel spindle knuckles, and extended lug wheel studs to accomodate said spacer.

    here's real world numbers
    275/70R17 = 32.2X10.83R17
    Diameter = 32.2"
    Width = 10.83"
    Wheel = 17"
    Sidewall = 7.58"
    Circumference = 101"
    Revs/Mile = 627.5

    so a 2" lift would be safe, no spacers, find a rim with the right offset

    I ran 275/70R17 BFG AT/KO2's on TRD Pro rims on my stock suspension. I only heard it rub once or twice while flexed out and it was barely rubbing.

    All you really need is to get Bilstein 5100's and put them at the .85 setting. I have mine on 1.5

    Is that for a specific tire?

    The height of the tire tends to be pretty consistent from tire-to-tire, but width can vary widely from manufacturer to manufacturer ... also, having larger side lugs can really play into if you're going to rub on stuff or not. So something like the Duratrac (or an even more aggressive MT) will have a lot more clearance issues than a more street friendly AT with less aggressive side lugs ...

    Just some food for thought.

    If you're looking to fit the biggest tire on a stock truck, then lots of people have made some 275/70-17's work, there's a thread linked above and other people have given their feedback here aready. It also works great with a level (5100's being a cheap and good way to level the front).

    I would say that if you are looking at a 2-3" lift all around and ready to make all of the driveability sacrifices that accompany a 275/70-17 (e.g. mpg decrease, slower acceleration, etc.) compared to the 265/70-17 ... then you might as well step up into the 285/70-17. You're not going to see much more negative street driving characteristics from the 285 vs. the 275, and if you are doing the lift and are willing to see the negatives from a big tire why bother half-assing it and only getting half the big tire? Just go big or go home, you're already paying for the size anyways ...

    However, if you ask me if you should go bigger than 285/70-17 at that point, from what I've read and talked to others about, I think you are going to get into the territory where you have to do a lot more modifications and maybe look at rear-gearing to maintain proper final-drive ratio. At that point I call it quits, but for some they're looking for the biggest baddest tire and that's what makes them happy :) ...

    Buuut ... if you aren't looking at this as just a way to run the biggest tire, maybe you're looking for better off road capability and you still drive your truck 95% on the street (or hell ... 80% or whatever ...) ... the 265/70-17 from a practical stand point, when the proper tire is chosen, will give all of the performance off road that 99% of people really need with a lot less trade off to on-road driving.

    However, I totally get that big tires are cool ... which is why I said, if that's you, and you're doing a lift, just go straight to the 285/70-17.

    edit: not going to ask if 275 is rated for the 7" TRD pro wheel ... let's not open that can of worms lol ;)

    I really like the 275 size. The 275 BFG's are as tall as the 285 Duratracs. A narrow tire is better in the snow too, which is why I personally don't want to go back to a 285

    Yea, I live in Michigan, so I agree with the tire outlook ... I'm probably just going to stick to 265 for my next tires, and if at some point down the road my vehicle becomes more of a toy and less of a daily driver, then I'm going to just jump into 285's ... but yea, for snow, narrow is usually the way to go, but obviously tire choice/compound really is key for cold weather conditions!

    True that! My 285 Duratracs on my 4Runner were a great tire for stopping and going in the winter, but whenever I hit slush I would get thrown around. The BFG's I'm running now were great to me this past winter, and they DEFINITELY improved the compound over the KO's with these. Seriously give them a look when you're tire buying. I'm happy with mine

    Yea, my brother is running the KO2 on his F150 over in Indiana up by the big lake there, so he gets a lot of snow too from the lake effect. He gives them very high praise for winter driving. He says they aren't as good as a full blown winter tire, but for an AT they are pretty spectacular and better than anything else he has used yet.
