I agree. 100% clean hit.

 

That's about as hard as you can hit when you're Dumba's size in the modern league. Otherwise anything that looks bigger, well, you probably caught the head and it's the neckwhip that makes it looks so huge.

 

Kane was just looking at the ice instead of where he was going. Was back in the game in the next shift

 

That's the nice thing about the modern league. We don't have to watch a superstar flop around on the ice because of a hit that gave us 1 second of pleasure. AKA Scott Stevens on about 3 superstars wrecking their careers. (I guess that's 3 seconds of pleasure...)

The hits Stevens dealt out were generally legal within the rules at the time

For sure. I don't hate him as a player. He was skilled at more than just hitting open ice too.

The game was just a lot different at that time. Too bad it knocked out so many kids. I'm sure 15 years ago Gaudreau would be babbling something about apple sauce on the ice by now rather than lighting it up with his skills.

 

Big guys can still kill in the new league too. They just have to be skillful about how they hit. Phaneuf hits like a brick wall still but he avoids the head on elbow contact to keep it clean.
