Dakine pad on 2016

As an avid mtn biker it doesn't look like you can haul mtn bikes with a dakine pad on the 2016. I also tow an RPod so a hitch rack wouldn't work for extended road trips. Does anyone with a 16 still use a dakine of or what is the solution?

 

My neighbor has a brand spanking new 16 TRD Sport & uses a Dakine pad. I admire it every day on my way to work.

 

Any chance you could get a pic with a bike over the tail gate? With the flared tail gate it appears the down tube would ride high and the stanchions on the fork would get scratched.

I'm going to be using a shell and hitch rack, but that would really suck if you can't hang bikes over it. Many bikers buy a truck for just that reason. I'm thinking that it probably does work.

@magnew If it didn't work wouldn't it seem odd that his neighbor would keep the pad on his truck?

I would think he would have found another solution if he couldn't hold his bikes in that manner. I am betting it works just fine.

 

That would work for a rigid fork. I think with how wide the top of the gate is it may scratch the stanchions.

 

F150s have the same flared tailgate and it works fine on those.

 

I use a raceface on my truck. Works well since you can strap the down tube in place.

 

Just get a piece of cloth to stikc on the stanchion. My pad does this on my 2nd gen tacoma but thats because I ride a small frame.

I'm assuming you have a thru axle bike and don't want to remove the wheel?. There are plenty of fork mounts that will bolt to the rails for QR wheel bikes. I prefer this method for (some) security.

 

Yeah and it's easier to haul 4 or 5 bikes over the tail gate
