Any LEER cap owners/buyers having problems like I have?

I was wondering if I am the only one having problems with Leer company.

First of all when I ordered the cap it took 7 weeks to arrive. I ordered it with Windoors and after two days the rivets in one of the Windoor shock mounts broke out. The Campway's dealer said they never had this happen before and it is warranty so they ordered a new Windoor.

Another 3 weeks later (last Tuesday) they called me that the windoor came in and I could stop by to have it replaced which I did yesterday.
When I got there we found out it is a completely wrong window and the manager told me they are having a lot of issues with Leer taking forever with everything. Average delivery time for a new cap is two months after placing the order. They do not want to ship glass and it gets delivered with their truck. He estimates it will take at least another month to two months to get the correct windoor delivered.

Lucky for me it is just the shock mount. If I would have a broken window it would mean I would be driving around already for 3 weeks like that and would have to wait another 1 to 2 months. That worries me a little for the future.

Anybody else experienced problems with Leer or do I just have bad luck?
I do love the cap very much, no complaints about that!

I have a LEER 100R on my Tacoma (third LEER I've owned). Seems like the quality has gone down hill.

I have two chunks of fiberglass that cracked out by the rear window - the dealer told me they were air pockets in the form and LEER would either offer me cash or I could send the cap back in to have it repaired. LEER won't do anything about it - they blamed me for the problem. I think the rear window doesn't fit correctly and rubs the fiberglass, causing the issue.

This is also the first one I've owned where the sliding front window in the topper doesn't line up with the truck (3 pane on the truck, 4 on the topper). Minor issue, but it's annoying since other trucks on here have a 3 pane slider from LEER, I had no luck getting it swapped out. LEER did send out a replacement window, but it also was a four pane version.

I'll probably look at other brands in the future...

I am a Leer dealer in the midwest and we are seeing our caps in 1-2.5 weeks and parts accordingly. We have hardly any issues here. All of our caps come from Leer Mid West. I would imagine some of it is a dealer issue and some of it may bee the other Leer plants but it isnt Leer as a whole.

I agree. I am a Leer dealer in PA, caps arriving 2-3 weeks out of the LEER east plant. In part it may be a dealer issue, or LEER west. I have a Leer delivery usually once a week, making a month or two for delivery of a windoor ridiculous. Sorry your having problems but it certainly is not company wide.

Thanks for the response guys! I am glad to hear that it is not company wide (at least not the east and midwest).

Is there a way to deal with Leer directly instead of the Campway's dealer?

Hmm considering a 100XR anyone know if OK is supplied by Leer West or Mid-West?

My 100R is awesome and it is 4 years old. The seals around one of the windows has begun to shrink, damn UV. I'll just use some black urethane to seal it up and it will be fine. My T-handles were filled up with salt, so they corroded, damn salt. I replaced them a couple of weeks ago and now they work great again.
Except for normal issues, there have been no out of the ordinary problems. Will buy another one if I can ever afford to trade trucks!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 100R as well and I love my cap, don't take me wrong. I have no issues with the quality although the rivets in the shock mount broke after opening the windoor maybe 3 or 4 times. It can happen that maybe that one mount was not installed correct. The other side is perfectly fine.
I just have issues with the extreme long waiting time for orders and parts from Leer on the west coast. It looks like Leer in the midwest and east doesn't seem to have these issues.

I got mine from craigslist, It came off a 05 to put on my 06. I have had it for probably a year now and no major problems as of yet. (this is my first cap ever, and it was basically new when i bought it, and seen very little road miles)

It has always bothered me that they put a 4 pain window in the back since the taco is a three pain. And the third break light always seems to have condensation in it. I never got keys with it and they are not cheap to buy which pisses me off.

I guess if I look close their are little things I am not very satisfied with, but cant complain (too much) since its preformed well. Then again I have never had to deal direct with leer.

Bought a cab high leer with the "Browning" package that included a gun box along the roof of the cap, carpeting, roof rack, as well as adding a few options, one being the front window that unlocks and folds in and down so you can clean the glass between the slider window on the cap and the back of the truck cab...

First time I go to clean the glass between the sliders windows, I'm amazed to find out that the extra "Feature" I paid for, cannot open because the gun box along the roof of the cap stick down to low and blocks the slider window from folding down to access the glass between the cap and cab..

WTF? They allowed me to purchase a feature that clearly doesn't work. there is not enough room..

Leer only offered to refund me 50% of the cost of the upgraded, fold-in slider window... So its my fault I picked a option in Leers catalog that they assembled and doesn't work..

They will never get my business again..

That blows! Leer should step up and correct this issue to your satisfaction if they value their Customer Service reputation. Apparently they don't based on your experience.

    That sucks Jomama!

I searched a bit online this morning and I found more complaints. Here is one of them:
    http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=65045

It can always happen that something is wrong with a product people buy and that I understand. The follow up on how the company solves the problem can make customers for life or make it that customers would never buy from that company again.
With Leer it seems that they have no customer service at all. I found multiple complaints from people saying they never received a response when contacting Leer directly or if they did it was something in the line of what happened to Jomama.
I contacted them on Thursday but after doing some reading I will be surprised if I receive an answer.

I do not think the problem is with the dealer (Campway's). When I went in to show them the broken shock mount they ordered a replacement under warranty right away while I was there.

I guess I will just have to wait and see how long it will take until the correct windoor arrives...

My Leer 100XQ is awesome. I have a leak coming from the corner and we can't see to isolate it. I'm not sure what to do. Other than that, I love it. No quality issues. Mine took 7 days to get here.

I've had several Leer shells (Caps) and have been happy with them all. I don't have one on my current truck but, if I were to buy another one, I'd use Leer again. My dealer was in Santa Rosa, CA and I had good luck with them.

Go to the Leer web page. There is a menu item at the top that reads "Contact us". Click on it and it gives the address for customer service Leer West. I would write to them directly and/or do a little research from that info and get a telephone number. Also, they are in Woodland, CA which is only about 1.5 hrs from you should you need to bring the truck to them.

At the very least, contacting them will give you an idea about whether the problem is with them or the dealer.

    Hope this helps.

    Doc.

I had a similar problem with my last one. If you have a bedrug installed, it could be that the rug is too close to the gap between the rear window and the tailgate. That was my problem. The rug was acting like a wick and drawing the water into the bed. My dealer found it and trimmed the bedrug back a bit - problem solved.

    Hope this helps.

Norm - I did contact Leer directly from their website on Thursday but haven't heard back from them yet. I will see if I can find a phone number for the location in Woodland and try to call them. Thanks for pointing out the Woodland location!

Doc - Sorry to hear about the leak. I hope you can find out where it comes from. Mine was leaking as well just after it was installed but that was at the front corners between the cap and the bed. The dealer filled up the gap with silicone.

hoosiertaco - that is exactly the same windoor that I have in my LEER 100R and that needs to be replaced. They look identical so I guess A.R.E and Leer both buy from the same supplier.
