In today's culturally sensitive environment, the term Nordique may be deemed inappropriate or even worse, racist. In a way I am surprised the Blackhawks haven't been called out.

 

They're waiting for the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians to get smacked down first

I have lots of French relatives. They want the team to be called either the Nordiques or something else locally relevant. Nordique just means Nordics and isn't really offensive in any way. Whatever happens the name will be in French.

 

I heard now there is a group going after the Braves too. In my home town our highschool team is the Rebels and they use a confederate style flag, with yellow on gold as the school colours, and yosemite sam in the same colours as there wall mural. Last I heard a parents groups was trying to get both the name and the mural scraped. Keep in mind this is in Canada where that flag means dick all. What's next, will it be illegal to call a team the Spartans because it offends Greek people? Maybe no more Leafs either because it offends the trees?

I mean I get why the Redskins name is offensive but the Indians and the Braves... it's starting to get a little far for me.

My c league team just won the championship! The guys even voted me the playoff MVP! 6 goals allowed in 5 games with 2 shutouts! (I'm a goalie) I'm telling you guys because my wife could give a shit. Thanks for listening, goons!

... what's the avg age on the beer squad ?

 

I'm 37 and probably 2nd or 3rd oldest on my team. I'd say avg age is 30-32 league wide. My b league team avg age is probably closer to 40-42

Cool, sounds fun ... what was the total cost for the season if you don't mind sharing ? What I like about leagues is the fact most are down to earth but there's always that one team that thinks they'd have a shot of beating an NHL team.

I didn't make the local Provincial AA finals this year as an official. I made the round robin though which was pretty cool. Honestly, I'm just getting to the age where I'm not going to develop much farther as an official and they give those sorts of assignments to up and comers for the experience.

Good stuff, congrats. I play in goal as well, beer league now but back in my glory days I played in AA and we won a few titles.

Goalies used to play for free in our league but they started charging us 1/3 the normal season cost so we pay about $175 for a 20 game season.
