If you're talking about family members...you all need to be consistent with the training. One bad session can undo many good sessions. You all need to be on the same page or the dog will easily get confused.

If not....tell people you're "training" and ask that they not interact with the dog.

oh believe me. they say im being an asshole because I wont let mine jump and lick on them when they first meet. also god forbid I tell them not to give her food from anything but her food bag. when I first got the pup I thought it would be easy to train her. well its super easy to train the dog. keeping people from ruining it is the most frustrating thing ive ever dealt with. another big problem is that I have to routinely leave her with some family due to work keeping me offshore for a week or so at a time and I have to retrain her every time. they seriously cant understand that they are the ones causing me to fuss at her and have to be extra anal about it. At least ive finally got my girlfriend on board with 90% of the training.

Training dogs is the easy part.....it's the training the "trainer" that's hard! Just keep working on being as consistent as possible.

Took Louie home from the foster family 2 weeks ago. He fits in very well and loves riding in the truck.
Fosters said he is Shepard/Boxer mix but not 100% sure.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
If you figure it out, let me know. I have been fighting this battle since our boxer puppy. "Oh it's okay that he jumps, I don't mind." Haha, but I do. Our current girl likes to use her teeth, so she tends to correct people herself  Well I should say they respect her more. My wife is a bit of a softy. She's on board on paper, but doesn't follow through. Again a long time battle. Good luck with the training. And I believe it is okay to be an asshole, if it is in the best interest of your dog. And try not to get frustrated, cause you will tend to take it out on your furry friend. And it isn't their fault people don't listen.

Now I'm worried guys....our Bloodhound is coming home on Wedneday so home training will begin. Worried on the 9 year old who probably wont follow through with the training as well. We'll see.

My end game is to get her to the local Live Find/Cadaver training (through the same people who did her initial training)

Sadie decided she wasn't happy with the configuration of the chair cushions. We use covers on the couch and chair to protect them. Didn't plan for this event.

Involve him/her with the training. Young dogs can only handle short training sessions anyway...so they need fun non-training time (with kids is great socialization). I know many, many families with kids with very well trained working dogs. The kids really can't mess things up too bad.

Dogs are quick to learn when it's work time versus play time...and once they know the basics, they're generally good about knowing what they should and shouldn't be doing.

Be carfull with that....electrical cords can generate heat more so when they are covered. I've investigated plenty of fires where this was traced back as the origin......just keep an eye on it.
