So I rode in a tacoma this weekend with king shocks in the rear and the difference in driving on a bumpy road was night and day. My bilstein shocks do not absorb or rebound very well at all and beat the hell out of me. What options do I have for the rear that eat bumps a little better without spending a shit ton of money? I saw the icon 2.0's for 320 on toytec site but not sure if they will help my problem. Also starting to worry about bottoming and topping out and have no clue to go about figuring out what length I need. Opinions from you guys?

2.0 shocks aren't going to help your problem. You would want a 2.5" shock body. Also Icons ride completely different than Kings.

King, ADS, and Fox all ride relatively the same. Icon is different due to the digressive valving.

What options do I have in a 2.5 and are they all remote resis? I'm guessing the extra .5 helps somehow with a smoother ride when driving over rough forest roads? I have never really understood all this crap with shocks and the geometry of it all.

I've been searching but can't find any specific for a 3rd gen. Kings website had different stroke lengths listed. How do I know which one I need. I don't care to do some measuring just don't know how

ADS will build whatever you want. So if you don't want a resi you don't have to get one. I don't know if King or Fox offers a non-reservoir option. 2.5's are great because they're rebuildable, unlike 80% of 2.0 shocks. So you can reseal and revalve them to your liking. A 2.5 shock also has more fluid inside of it and larger internal components that vastly improves efficiency

I had mad shock fade on my 2.0s. I haven't experienced that with my 2.5s yet.

Call Micah at Downsouth Motorsports. He knows all of that and can get you a price quote for all 3 companies.
2.0's are certainly an improvement. But if you truly want to get the most out of the stock geometry, then you should run the biggest possible shocks you can.

My Toytec Coilovers were like riding on 2 2x4's after about 20 minutes in the desert.

Is there an echo in hear? I feel like I just said that you can revalve some 2.0's and you're right, most people will be fine with 2.0's. Hell 80% of T4R will be fine with Bilstein 5100's. If you noticed I never stated that he needs 2.5's, I just said ideally you would want 2.5's especially because the truck he rode in with Kings had 2.5" Kings. That's the ride he's trying to mimic and he's only going to get that from 2.5's.

yeah just single 2.0s. I most likely am not a fair assessment because of the wheeling i do demands 2.5s

I had to take my fender liner off and still can't get enough space to get leverage on the top of the clamp. What did you do?

Yeah this to some degree. I just want to be able to drink a beer riding down a rocky forest road to get to the trails without spilling it and shitting all over myself from being shaken to death by the smallest rocks known to mankind? Does that make sense? If i can achieve this rather closely with 2.0s then I will go that route. If I can't get anywhere close to eliminating those things aforementioned then I will save my money and cry while spending a 1000 bucks for 2 rear shocks lol

i dont blame you there. But Icons are digressive valved, so itll be rougher at lower speeds but smooth out up top. King is Progressive and is opposite. So choose wisely.

Full droop and use your factory jack upside down to press on the uca to get more room.

Depends on how rocky we're talking, but most of that is going to be the load rating on your tires as well as what pressure they're at. Which is pretty easy to change. Then after that comes shocks. A flutter stack helps with the smaller washboards and bumps. An off the shelf 2.5 will be just as good as a custom valved 2.0. So I'd pick your poison. It sounds like you should go with some fox 2.0's without resi's. Cheap, easy to resell, and if you need more you can buy a bigger shock later down the road.

So fox 2.0s day there for 2-3 inch lift
Icon says there 2.0s are for 0-2 inch lift.

I haven't even been able to price what 2.5s would cost because I can't figure out what stroke and length I need yet.
