Im looking to get my alignment, but when i asked Firestone if they adjusted caster, they told me that only body shops adjust caster. Im sure i read that caster on our trucks is adjusted on the lower control arm (which are new cause of my frame replacement). Is the caster really adjusted on the LCA or somewhere else?

Im looking to bring the tire forward a little cause of minor rubbing and I am also going to be installing 5100's at .85 and will be needind an alignment anyway in the near future. I was going to get the lifetime alignment, but not if they cant adjust caster

    thanks

Your first mistake was going to Firestone. Those people couldn't find their ass in the shower.

Take your truck to a real alignment shop.

If you have to show an automotive tech what to do, you are in the wrong shop.

Good luck with your problem. Hope things get sorted out.

    Take it to another Firestone.

I've had the lifetime alignments and never had an issue with them. - always end up asking them for 2* of caster

Sears lifetime $180, told them I wanted 2.5 caster on stock uca's. They got it close 2.3 and 2.4 just specified what I wanted. Got no arguments. Just my experience though.

Firestone is hit or miss, usually OK, but a couple times they were clueless. Really depends on the shop and who happens to be working that day. I have Firestone lifetime on two vehicles (about 10 years each).

From my experience with getting alignments....

GO TO AN ALIGNMENT ONLY SHOP!

Places like big brand / firestone, do a shit quick job and dont spend the time to do it right. I have a guy in my area who does an amazing job, been doing alignments for 25+ years, I spoke to him about what i wanted and he had no issue. We literally spent 2 hours dialing in my alignment to within 1/100th of a degree difference on either side for all the values.

do you guys think 2 or more caster is ok with stock suspension and will it make the rubbing on the front mud flaps less likely?

with 5100s your still going to rub?

Your already spending good money on an alignment and 5100s. I'd reconsider tire size if your still going to rub before opening up the caster configuration.

Problem is I already have my level 8 mk6's with 265 70 17 dynapro's. They rub a little and my suspension is stock. I also already have pre assembled 5100's with sport coils at .85 that i am going to install. I was hoping to get an alignment first to see if that would cure the rubbing, and after that install the 5100's and get it aligned again (hence lifetime alignment at firestone).

Our caster is adjusted buy loosening the 2 bottom control arm bolts and adjusting one way out and the other way in depending on whether you need positive or negative caster. Like everyone else says Firestone is ran by autistic lawn mower mechanics so I wouldn't trust them. You can also get some spc upper control arms which have adjustable ball joints for both caster and camber for 300+ I got mine off Amazon for 310 shipped

at .85 you should be able to use the stock UCA no problem. and 265/70R17's shouldnt have much rub if any at all.

Wtf. Install the 5100's then take it to get aligned. You don't balance and rotate your tires a day before you buy new tires. :smack:If they don't know how to adjust caster then they shouldn't be doing alignments.

yep thanks, thats why im thinking caster is off... picture is on flat ground with the truck stopped and rubbing while just turning the wheel with no pressure on suspension at all.
